#2 on Google for Phoenix Real Estate?!?

This is probably just some fleeting Google aberration, but I had to grab a screen snip while it was there.

“Phoenix Real Estate” is a search term some consider the “gold standard” for a real estate site / blog. (Personally, I find it somewhat over rated, but that’s another blog post).

We normally bounce around between #7 and #12. Not bad out of almost 2.5 million results.

Today we popped up at #2.

Phoenix real estate guy at #2 on Google

How long will it last?

Who knows. 10 minutes probably. Kinda cool though.

Interesting. I looked for my corresponding search, and I’m #6 … but …. I don’t show up without scrolling down b/c google’s real estate search shows up. Why doesn’t it for yours?

I’ve got you at #9 here in Atlanta. Not #2, but still a good placement for such a competitive keyword.

I just jumped to 3 from the bottom half of the page today too. Only know that because your post made me go check. Actually, that is for Birmingham mi real estate. I don’t think I’ll ever make page one for phoenix real estate…

@Jim – beats me why that doesn’t show up. I see it here sometimes, sometimes not…

@Matt – Now I’m showing at #5. Seems to be flopping around on different Google data centers. I have no clue why.

@Maureen – Nice. You’re on every page one in my book!

Jay,

You should try your search again without being logged into your Google account. I think you have just experienced Google’s personalized search. :)

Greg –

Now I’m seeing #7 NOT logged in and #11 logged in…

I’m almost always logged into my Google account and have never seen it at #2, as fleeting as it was.

I’ve also never seen as wide a variation across data centers as I saw this morning. But the difference now is between 7 – 12 (this morning was 2 – 9). Usually I don’t see a difference of more than 1 position, occasionally 2 across data centers.

I did the search both being logged in and out. Both times you were number 9. If position #2 was due to personalized search results, then it really did not affect my search in either direction. Mind you I am on the East Coast. I still think top 10 is a great result. Over the period of time it can amount to thousands of visitors.

I got surprised there for a moment, not that because we stepped down (been there, done that), but because your blog suddenly jumped like on fire :) Only today I noticed you actually made a post about it. BTW, I saw you #9 today and Yahoo Phoenix Real Estate section was at #2. 20 minutes later you’re at #2 again.

This one is my favorite – result.
Not sure if anyone can see, but we’re #1 on this DC and Jay’s blog is #2 :)

@Vlad – You won’t see what Jay sees logged in because the results get customized based on your search behavior. If you look at Jay’s screen shot, you will see that he’s logged three times the number of visits to his site as he has to the other two. When Google sees that, they will adjust the ranking so that the site you like most is closer to the top.

We like to call it the CEO SERP. When you are working on a large project with a CEO who is obsessed with tracking the slightest changes, you just have his assistant log him in. Within a week he sees everything at #1 which makes him shutup. :)

Jay – Congratulations! That’s a huge accomplishment. I hope it lasts – keep us posted about any increase in traffic from that term.

@Greg – I’m confused about the personalized search. I’m seeing a higher ranking for that term when I’m not logged in.

Jay,

Wow. Congrats.

Also, you’re showing at #2 for “Nepalese lender in phoenix”. As far as I know I’m the only one in the valley that could even possibly be seeking to be found that way and you beat me on that one too… not only are you not a lender but you’re not even Nepalese from what I know…

Congrats!

Jay – just did a search for “Phoenix Real Estate” and you’re sitting @ #11 (Google.com) and #18 (Google.ca) on the DC’s I’m accessing. Important to remember to “sign out” prior to running a search, otherwise you’ll see skewed (personalized) results *which tend to be a little optimistic*

That being said, I’ve seen a lot of weird results on Google over the past 2 days …. I suspect the SERPS are in flux as an algo update in being implemented.

All the best -

Jim

I wonder if that ranking was related to the relevancy of whatever the current blog post was on your homepage at that time…? Because I know that Google really likes fresh content.

Congrats on your high ranking for Phoeniz Real Estate. You’re number 11 tonight in Puerto Rico (I’m traveling).

I let my site go for a while and started rebuilding on January 10th. I moved from out of the top 300 to 54 then dropped to 144 and I’m now back up to 122. I’m number 9 on Yahoo, so go figure.

I agree that the term “real estate” is not the best. I’m in the top 15-25 for “homes for sale” and “condos for sale” and climbing. I think these are better terms for buyers and sellers.

Regards,

Lynn

great job for such a tough keyword, hard work pays and to be first page especially #2 even if your dancing around is a great accomplishement. That should provide just that many more leads, congrats

Nice job.

My Scottsdale site: dcranchrealestate.com comes up number #5 with a generic search “dc ranch”. I go for the big money!
