A Cry for Help: Trevor Austin Kott

.

John Lockwood at the Sacramento Real Estate Blog posted today about an incredibly brave little guy named Trevor Austin Kott.

Trevor was born in October with congenital Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He is currently in his fifth round of chemotherapy. He's spent basically all of his short life in the hospital.

He is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant, and no tissue match has been found yet.

John's helping to spread the word locally about Trevor. There are marrow drives being planned in the Sacramento area.

Time is very short.

Francy and I both registered with the National Marrow Donor Program when our friend Wendy Collins was diagnosed with AML several years ago. Tragically, Wendy lost her battle with this insidious disease.

You don't need to be in Sacramento to help Trevor. There are donor centers all over the country you can go to for the testing required to get your tissue type info registered. You can even register on-line to get a test kit mailed to you. When Francy and I registered, all that was required was a blood test. Apparently now it can be done with a simple cheek swab.

Even if you're not a match for Trevor, you may be a match for someone. Anyone.

Cost is minimal ($52 – $96 depending on the center and test) and is tax deductible. It is sometimes possible to register for free (contact your donor center).

Please consider helping. It only takes one person… Do it for Trevor, do it for the thousands that need a marrow transplant. Do it for YOU.

It allows you to login with Twitter, Facebook, Google+ LinkedIn, OpenId, LiveFyre and as a "Guest". I recommend getting a LiveFyre account, it has some great features (just click the LiveFyre button when you write your comment).

BLOG COMMENT POLICY: We respectfully ask that you use your real name (first name only is fine) and not use keywords (Why no keywords?). The only real "comment rules" are be civil -- no personal attacks -- and no advertising. (See the full comment policy here). Opinion and debate are welcome, but attack the idea, not the person.

Jay AND John- I applaud you for getting the word out! It's great to see these forums used for a bigger cause! :)

Oh my, I am so deeply saddened by this tragety. I have a 7 month old and I am in tears thinking about little Trevor. I am going in the morning to donate and hope to be a match. Please put these flyers everywhere...Trevor needs this soon. Tell everyone and put flyers everywhere. It only takes one person to be a match.

Jay, thanks for spreading the word.
