This was a headline in todays Arizona Republic:
Arizona’s temperatures rising more than the planet’s average
Great. While we’ve had typically idyllic weather of late, summer is right around the corner.
Some research has found that the globe warmed by an average of 1 degree Fahrenheit between 2003 and 2007, but Arizona warmed by 2.2 degrees during that time.
Oh well. When it boils down to it (no pun intended) is there really that big a difference between 113 and 115.2?

I guess someone has to say it… “but it’s a dry heat”.
Jay, I moved to Phoenix in July of ‘93 and was greeted by the warmest temperature ever recorded for the date, something like 118 or 123 or so. And Dru, dry heat or not, you have to respect those temperatures.
But you dive into the pool, don’t get very active between noon and 6PM and adjust. It’s a great place to live and I’ll tell you, I can’t get warm as easily as I can get cool and of course, isn’t that why air conditioning was invented (of course, my blood thinned after living in AZ for a while) and I still prefer hot to cold, ice, snow, and whatever winter has to offer.
Global warming, who knows. Blue skies and hot I understand and like.
The summer of 1990-June 21- 122 degrees- 7 months pregnant with the first child- talk about global warming -haha- They even made T-shirts to remember that day (My Mom has one).
I wonder if they take into account all the growth in the Phoenix Area and if the tempature rise has any correlation to the tons of asphalt and concrete that has replaced cotton fields and dairy farms.
It may not yet be apparent. Where I live, it is beginning to tell on local agriculture, floriculture and wildlife. It is not that I or my family cannot manage the changing climatic conditions, but I dread what would happen to my son’s retirement age and his children’s adulthood. We do not seem to be moving with the speed that is needed to arrest and reverse global warming.
Is this June hotter than last? Just got my electric bill and it’s $65.00 more than last year June. I realize utilities are going up , but that can’t account for such an increase.
Barb, Your question motivated me to check out my APS bill (aps.com) and I discovered that our electrical usage for this past billing period when compared to same period last year was only 2% more, but my bill was 24% higher. For us, the dollar amount was about $40, for essentially the same usage.
Global Warming anyone? 1 or 2 degrees doesn’t seem like much, but in that short a period (especially if you consider the life of the planet), its the equivelant of the planet having a fever, which if untreated, can be fatal.
