Beefing up the Blogroll

One of my 2007 Blogolutions was to keep my blogroll updated. If you take a peak, you’ll see many new additions. (it is in fact, getting a bit too lengthy, but I’ll worry about that later).

I still have more to add. If you’re missing, say so (again if necessary).

Everything in the blogroll has something to offer. Great writing, local information, humor, news and insight. Take a peak. Take a trip through the Blogiverse. Enjoy the ride.

  • I have been looking for a "collapsible" blogroll plugin, but the ones I like tend to require Ajax - a bit beyond my technical scope.
  • Jim - I saw a blog yesterday whose blogroll displayed 10 random entries from a list, but for the life of me I can't remember where it was! I kind of liked it (though I'd like to show more than 10, perhaps that can be configured?)

I'll keep my eye out for something. It's got to be out there. Like you, I don't know if I want to delve into Ajax...

If anyone else knows a good WP plugin to manage a lengthy blogroll, please let me know!

Another option I've pondered is what RCG and the Tomato do, have a short list displayed, with a "more" link to another page with the complete list. Only problem with that is deciding who goes on the "primary" list. Maybe there is something that could randomize that?
  • Hey Jay. I think that was my blog that you saw, since you did leave a comment.

I believe that the 10 random links is standard in Wordpress. If you go to Links -> Link Categories and then click "Edit" on any category, you should be able to set a number to display. I actually just upped mine to 15. Let me know if that works for you.

Oh, and thanks for adding my blog!
  • Hiya -visiting via thegoodblogs.
I tidied up my sidebar using a drop-down for my blogroll and archives. Both plug-ins were from: http://tech.windsofstorm.net/wordpress/drop-lin...

Aa couple of notes on use
    1) The drop down goes as wide as the longest name on the blogroll. Might want to edit titles for aesthetic reasons.

    2) I found a tiny hack on the plug-in comments to make it open links in a new tab or window:

  • Thanks Trev, I'll give it a look!
  • @Jay - Can you tell me what is kept in a blog role on a normal basis. As I am not completly sure what items others like to find there and what it is normally intended to be used for.
