Blogsperiment #392: RSS Hugger

Mary McKnight over at RSSPieces wrote about rssHugger.com today.

Now Mary would be the first to tell you that she and I don’t see eye-to-eye on everything. (My wife is the only person I’ll agree with on everything. Mostly because she’s usually right and partly because, well…. she’s my wife.)

But Mary’s a pretty sharp cookie and she uncovers nuggets-of-goodness on a regular basis.

RSS Hugger is a newish “blog directory” that looks pretty slick. And they have a brilliant “viral” marketing campaign. Just write a review (such as this one) and you get your blog listed for 10 years, for free.

They’ve got a “Top 100” list (that resets monthly) and a “Random Blog” link — both good ways for finding new blogs to read and write about (which is just what I need, yet another blog in my feed reader — it’s a sickness folks).

Seems like an easy way to get what could amount to a quality backlink. Who knows if it will drive traffic — that remains to be seen. They are currently tracking 1219 feeds, with lofty goals for many more.

Can’t see anything wrong with signing up. If you prefer not to write a post about RSSHugger, the cost is only a $20 one-time fee.

Something tells me you’re going to see a few RSSHugger posts popping up across the real estate net shortly. 10 of the latest 11 additions are real estate blogs.

Note to Collin – the RSS Hugger guy: You should add a category just called “Real Estate”. Not every real estate blog is about “Real Estate Investing” (the one pure RE category in place now).

  • Jay - lol, you think we'll see a few more? It's funny how viral RE bloggers are - it's like wildfire - love your suggestion to for Collin - hope he hears you!
  • "Just what I need another blog in my feed reader"... LOL I have the same thoughts but of course I'll need to go check it out.
  • Thanks for the tip! I registered and it looks "golden" to me! :)
  • A rarity, but I actually beat you to it Jay.

So it turns out the brainchild (literally) behind the site, Colin, built and sold that site (along with a sister site) in about 3 months and netted a cool 13K on the sale in January.

I was born about 20 years too early me thinks.
  • Listing for 10 years! That's pretty good. I love the rsspieces blog. The random blog page is pretty cool. Almost like a "stumble" for just blogs...would be really cool if the page reset each time it was refreshed.
  • I can't beleive the number of ways there are to promote a blog. The mind boggles. I seem to spend my whole life promoting my various blogs.
  • It's a bright and sunny Saturday morning here in South Florida and as I drink my morning cup o' joe, I am reading about things here that can help my business. Now it seems I will be tied up for the next two hours writing a post about rsshugger. Thanks Jay!
