Boys and their Toys: The Command Center Expands

in Random Musings

Back in April 2007 I wrote about my wicked cool 24 inch pivoting Gateway monitor. And it’s taken me almost two years to talk Mrs. Phoenix Real Estate Guy into allowing me to expand my monitor real estate space.

Today I added a 23 inch Samsung flat screen to the collection:

command center SM

Trust me, once you go dual monitors, you’ll never go back!

Thanks Francy, for putting up with my incessant whining, and an extra special thanks to our accountant Greg Brantley of Brantley Accounting and Taxes. His wizardry with a 1040 and Schedule C provided some unexpected funds.

If two monitors is cool, why not eight?

  • I never thought I would say this, but the two monitors do look pretty handy! And you will have to tell your wife she is an angel, lol!

  • I agree, your wife is very sweet to let you buy more toys, lol! I am rather impressed with the one that can go vertical, that would be fun to add to my setup in the office.
  • Hey, we have the same web cam. And I'm crossing my fingers regarding some funds for a second monitor myself. Are you listening Mr Accountant?

  • @Margaret, @ Meg - my wife ROCKS! I tell her that as often as I can, probably not enough though...

  • I have been thinking about getting a second monitor for my desktop at the office for some time now or at least upsizing the one that I do have.
  • Over stimulation for me. I don't know that I would ever leave my man cave with two monitors. Although, now that I think about it I could use one for Twitter, one for the MLS, one for my client database and one for my investor cash flow analysis spreadsheet. Honey, look what Jay has, can I get 4?!?! How do you like that keyboard?

  • I need a setup like that! Love it.
  • Hear hear! Congratulations on the new screen real estate. I am with you there, once you have two monitors you will never want to go back.

  • Man oh man I am sooooooooooooo jealous!!!! I just got my first 22" monitor a few months ago and I love it. I can't imagine having two of them...lol Anyway when are you getting #3?

  • I love multiple monitor setups. I used to run a 3x19 inch and have moved to a 2x 24 inch setup. I may just have to get a 3rd 24in soon :)
  • Dual monitors allows you to easily double your productivity. Having the ability to leave your email open all the time is a life saver. You also have to love the small profile of LCD monitors. Imagine the space a 23" CRT would take up??
  • @Shuki - your desk is ridiculously clean. *Nice* setup though, and great taste in web sites! ;)
  • @Jay- I can't start work each day unless my inbox in outlook is cleared as well as my desk...I am OCD in that way.

I will snap a few more pics...the lighting this morning was dark.
  • Jay - very interesting to get a peek behind the curtin:)

  • 2 monitors is definitely very cool, eight may be overkill though.

  • Yes, I think that eight is excessive. I don't think that you would be able to ingest all of that information all at once. Very cool setup though.

  • I don't have dual monitors :-/

I have a pc but ever since going mac, I don't touch the darn thing. Still, it'd be pretty cool to have two monitors...

  • Nice "command center" setup! It is fun to see the "backlot tour" of TPREG.
  • That is a really great setup! I'm sure it is so helpful to have work on one screen, and then resources, IM, and, perhaps, your blog, going on the other. Congrats on the new addition!
  • I recently went over to a dual monitor setup too. At the time I wasn't sure if it was worth the extra expense but I'm already beginning to wonder how I ever did without it. The trouble is, now I want a third, monitor expansion is addictive!
  • I bet its great to have such an awesome set up. You can work on one screen and play games on the other...lol! Seriously though I'd like to have a set up like that someday, but I don't know how it would help me do more. I think I would just end up playing with it over and over again ;)

  • Hey, I never thought it would be possible to use dual monitors with different display modes, the other is horizontal, and the other is vertical! Great, and by the way, what is your video card which supports this?

Also great to note you're using ergonomic keyboard, it's good to the hands :)

Adrian´s last blog post..Autodesk 3D Studio Max 2010 now ready for Download
  • Yeah it's great to have a game on the one monitor, and the other is web browser while you're reading walkthroughs! Or you can also launch another game in the other. For example, you want to dual log an MMORPG account which is possible in many games such as WoW. However, I think you really need a decent videocard for this to work.
  • thats great :)
