Buyer Incentives: Superbowl Tickets…

I've seen a lot of buyer's incentives in this wacky Phoenix real estate market. Builders throwing in swimming pools and 80 grand in upgrades. Resale sellers leaving behind the plasma TV, pool tables, even the car in the garage.

But this morning I found an email flyer in my spam folder that had a most interesting buyer incentive…

Yep, buy a home and get yourself two tickets to Superbowl XLII — happening right here in Glendale, Arizona on February 3, 2008

This is an interesting incentive. How the seller has managed to procure tickets, I'm not sure as to my knowledge they aren't on sale yet. Something to ask if you find yourself involved in an incentive such as this…

The value of such an incentive is pretty much up to what the buyer considers it worth. Of course there is a face value to the tickets, but for a football fan the intrinsic value could be more than face value. And of course if the Broncos make it to the Superbowl, this incentive will certainly increase in value…

The Broncos are simply the best team in football. Having the best team in football at the Superbowl will increase the value of the tickets. That's all I meant!

I can't help it. Been a fan since I was in the 6th grade. WAY pre-Elway. Spent many a Sunday freezing my a$$ off in Mile High Stadium.

A lot of us are still here with no reason to change our allegiance. We support the "Orange Crush" (even if their uniforms are mostly blue now).

I cringed when the Broncos picked up Plummer. The guy has a lot of talent, but too many years playing behind a hapless offensive line and always being forced to make something happen produced a lot of *really* bad habits.

Incentives showing up in my area are trips to hot spots during the cold winters. Today, I received a flyer with a trip to the Cayman Islands for the buyers and the buyer's agent. We were really talking about it at lunch. One agent said that a home seller was throwing in a $20,000 media system. Tickets to the Super Bowl would be nice. Even better if my Chiefs were going.

Very unique incentive! In general how do you find incentives work for you? We have a home with an outdoor pool that we are going to try and sell this spring and we have about $10,000 worth of patio furniture that we really won't need once we don't have a pool any more. Should we use that as an incentive or try to sell it to the buyer after the sale?
