This is just what I need, another blog project / thing to do.
So what is it?
In a nutshell, it’s a”¦ city guide to Gilbert, Arizona. A place for folks to share and discover some of the cool places to eat, shop, drink, hang out and whatnot in our fair little corner of the Phoenix metro area.
At this point in time, it is woefully light on content. But that will change soon enough. There is enough there to give you the basic idea. I think.
Ultimately, I’d love to fill this thing with user generated content. This serves two purposes ”“ it keeps me from having to do all the work and more importantly, it puts variety to the mix. Different contributors add different perspectives ”“ and that is a good thing.
“Why, why would you do this?” asks my wife. There are a couple of reasons. One, I saw this theme and thought it was cool. So I said to myself, “Self, you should try something with that”. The Google map integration is pretty slick, and I seriously dig how it auto-sizes photos. There are some other, more subtle aspects of the theme I wouldn’t mind incorporating into Phoenix Real Estate Guy and the best way for me to do that is to play with the stand alone version before I slice and dice it with my “coding skills” into what exists here on TPREG. Rather than fill it up with gibberish, I figured I might as well put some content of value in it.
Two, I like living in Gilbert. I like sharing places to go and things to do. There is somewhat of a rage going on Facebook right now in the real estate space with “365 things to do in YourTown” pages. I like the concept, but I’m not terribly fond of Facebook at times, and I don’t have the time or commitment to post something to a page every day. For me, it’s easier to do something similar on a WordPress platform ”“ hence the City Guide for Gilbert.
Of course, there is a real estate component to “CGG”. After all, real estate is a significant part of any community and it should be painfully obvious that I have a vested interest in helping people buy and sell homes.
Yes, of course there are already many similar sites out there ”“ Yelp comes immediately to mind. Clearly nothing I create is going to compete on that level. There are other restaurant sites, entertainment sites, news sites, etc. I’m not aware of a single entity that pulls everything into one site for a community like Gilbert, so it seems like there could be a need. Who knows.
There is no telling what, if anything, may come from this site. But if nothing else, it’ll be fun to see what we can develop out of it.
I’m wide open to feedback, so let me have it!
