Clear the Phoenix Roads!

Young James Thompson just got his Learner's Permit. Since he got a 96% on the test, he's under the belief that he knows everything there is to know about driving. (Hey, he's 15 and a half, he knows everything about anything. His parents on the other hand, know nothing.)

Remarkably, the auto insurance rates remain unchanged. Until he gets his actual license of course at which point I'm sure they'll stick it to us.

So if you are in the East Valley and you see a KID behind the wheel of a green 2003 Altima, with a white knuckled parent in the front seat, give us a wide bearth.

God help me.

    Apparently it doesn't get easier as the kids get older! My boy is two and a half years old, and fortunately this particular pleasure is still something I am still looking forward to. I'll be on the look-out for the green Altima!

  • Oh Jay, we have a 16.25 year old; I can TOTALLY FEEL YOUR PAIN! :) Is yours a Realtor in training??? Our son doesn't seem to be interested, but our 9 year old daughter likes to take me to IKEA and demonstrate the positives of each model as if she was selling me a home... scary...she sounds exactly like her daddy!
  • LOL Jay - WOW 15! My son is 14 and he is NO WHERE even half way ready to get behind the wheel. I am still trying to teach him how to aim correctly - if you know what I mean. DRIVING at 15?? In NY its 17 for learners permit and 18 for license. ONE more reason I love NY.
  • Jay - Let me give this a positive spin. Count your blessings it's your son, and not a daughter. :)

    By the way, do you know how to keep four women tied up on the road for an hour or so?

    Have them all arrive at a four-way stop sign intersection simultaneously.
  • It's when you hear that BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM and see a car vibrating as it comes down the street you know to stand clear.

    There's usually a teenage driver being distracted by a parent in the passenger seat slamming their foot repeatedly on the imaginary brake pedal.
  • Or when you ask your daughter what she's waiting for, the stop sign doesn't change to a go sign.
  • This doesn’t help folks. I have a 13 year old daughter too…

    Sometimes I wish the driving age here wasn’t 16. On the other hand, I get tired of hauling the kids around everywhere. In some ways, it’ll be good that he can drive. In other ways, not so much..

    And Cooper, stop leaving yourself logged in! I'm tired of coming in behind you, commenting, and having it look like I'm you!!

  • My daughter will never drive or date according to her very protective father. Since she is not yet 4, she has a while before she needs to begin wearing him down on these prohibitions.

    Mo - I've been telling my daughter since she was in utero that she can't date until she's 30. She bought it for a long time. Tell Dmitry he's got about 6 more years...
