Do Your Civic Duty!

by Jay - The Phoenix Real Estate Guy on November 7, 2006

Unless you’ve been living in a cave the past two months, you know that today is election day.

I hit the polls at 7:00am and was out by 7:30. If you think you need to whine about taking 30 minutes to vote, remember the guy in Iraq that walked for 20 hours to get to a polling place. It could be a lot worse. (sorry, can’t find a link, but it’s out there)

BlogArizona has some good linkage to stuff on candidates and the propositions.

Cameron Swann (14 year old Son of BloodhoundBlog) gives some sage advice that older voters would do well to heed.

Maricopa Mark has an interesting idea on how to pick a proposition.

I’m not telling you how to vote. I hope I don’t have to tell you why you should vote. Just educate yourself and vote. Arizona has the longest ballot in the country, there are some important races and important propositions. Freedom is a wonderful thing. The right to vote is a wonderful thing. Enjoy your freedom and exercise that right today.

You say “I’m not telling you how to vote” but you link to some libertarian kid telling us to heed his advice and some right wing nut job with a crackpot plan. I thought this was a real estate blog, not a politics blog. Why don’t you just admit you think Ronald Regan is a god?

Joey -

Thanks for visiting and commenting.

I think you misunderstood what I said, perhaps I wasn’t clear.

I linked to Cameron’s post because I admire the fact that a 14 year old kid took the time to investigate each and every proposition on the ballot. I clearly stated I didn’t agree with all of his positions. The “advice” I implored others to heed was his efforts and research to educate himself. More SHOULD do that. Perhaps “advice” was a poor choice of words.

Surely no one takes Maricopa Mark’s “plan” seriously. I linked to it because I find it funny. If you don’t, then I suggest just clicking the back arrow and not reading it.

This is mostly a real estate blog, though it’s certainly wandered off-topic on many occasions. I do try to avoid politics, but on occasion it’s difficult to avoid completely.

Thinking Ronald Reagan is a “God” would be…. well…. stupid. I voted for Ronald Reagan twice, and I happen to think he was (by far) the greatest president in my lifetime, and probably one of the greatest in history. That’s my opinion, others will certainly differ. But a “God”? Uh, no.

Jay & Francy,

I hope you don’t mind me chiming in here, but I couldn’t resist after I saw the most recent Voting of the Top 20 performance scores for all Point2 real estate web sites.

Congratulations on being ranked #1 in the performance rankings for all of the Point2 real estate web sites in the US, Canada & Worldwide. When your site at http://www.thompsonsrealty.com was put to the test against all of the other 98,700 sites in the Point2 network, your site came out #1.

I’ve always found your blog site to be very informative as well and now I know why. I’m going to include your blog site on my Northwestliving.net blog roll. I think your site will provide my viewers with good insight on our business. Good job guys!

Thanks for the compliments Jerry. Of course you’re welcome to chime in any time!

I like your NorthwestLiving blog! I’ll add it to the blogroll on the next update!
