Here I sit at the Maricopa County Superior Court in the jurors waiting area.
Wow, there are a lot of trials going on….
And a whole lot of people sitting and waiting. And waiting.
I’d live blog the process, but would likely lose every reader I’ve ever had.
You sit, you wait. You listen to the guy next to you yelling into his cell phone. And then you wait some more.
They are playing Alvin and the Chipmunks on TV, and there is of course, not a 4 year old in sight.
And they won’t change the channel or turn it down. It’s pure torture.
Wireless is $9/hour, but if you just look deeply (and know where to look) you can hook into a free WiFi network. Thank goodness.
Time to catch up on some writing…
Keeping fingers and toes crossed that I don’t get selected. Been there, done that. It was actually interesting to serve on a jury, but I don’t really need a repeat experience.

Alvin, Simon, Theodore….shudder… I HATE getting stuck at the courthouse. I think you’d make a fortune if you rented portable dvd players or even ipods in there.
I really wonder what will make the system become efficient and concerned about inconvenience to the common people. Be it the judiciary, the legislature or the executive all seem to be totally callous.

I’m really sorry you had to deal with that! For some reason, every government institution is the worst place to be – it’s absolute torture (as you pointed out) and it never takes less than what seems like a lifetime to do what you went there to do.
I’ve never actually been selected to be on a jury and keep hoping I don’t make the cut.
Fortunately I have never been asked to serve on a jury. However, many of my friends have been I summoned for this experience. I hear that it can be a long boring process. Hope you escape the torture!
Narrowly escaped a jury a few months ago in Mesa’s superior court – was settled before selection got going. Had the full experience in Phoenix a few years ago – as you said, was interesting, but not looking forward to another.
I am involved in a lawsuit right now that might go to trial. I know it’s a hassle, but it’s definitely necessary. I’m going to need a jury to do the right thing. I can’t think of a better system, unfortunately.
You know, it is funny how we love our legal system yet we hate jury duty. I’ve been called maybe 5 times in my life and have never sat on a jury. If I could plan a vacation and not lose business I wouldn’t mind, but having a life and a business makes jury duty really difficult.
Our new courthouse in Orlando now even has a lounge with computers and internet access. Sure makes passing the time waiting a lot better.
