Domain Name Change - Wish Me LUCK!

by Jay - The Phoenix Real Estate Guy on October 7, 2006

After much pondering, research, and talking to the *excellent* tech support people at my host, GoDaddy.com, I’ve decided to take the plunge and switch this blog’s domain name from BuyGilbertHomes.com to PhoenixRealEstateGuy.com. Both URLs have been in use for quite some time, with PREG.com “pointing” to BGH.com.

If all goes well, no one will notice anything different. If I accidently implode the blog or my website, well then I’m going to have a busy weekend! I hate to start sentences with, “If all goes well…”
In theory, anything currently linking to BuyGilbertHomes.com should still work after the switchover. I hate to start sentences with, “In theory…”

Why am I doing this? Because I’m insane, that’s why. Actually, it’s because PREG.com just makes more sense. It’s the name of this blog after all. With the recent Google PR update, PREG.com actually has a higher page rank than BGH.com. Personally I think PR is overrated, but it matters to some. I’m also having extreme diffculty getting BGH.com to work right on Technorati. Their tech support (who I have less faith in than GoDaddy’s) hasn’t been much help. We’re thinking I can “claim” PREG.com on Technorati when I switch over and then the Technorati world will be spinning on-axis again.

If you have our blog on your blogroll, it would be very helpful if you could switch the URL from http://www.buygilberthomes.com to http://www.phoenixrealestateguy.com. Again, it SHOULD work if you don’t, but it would be better if you could. Sorry to hassle you like this. I won’t do it again, trust me! (some of you already have PREG.com and not BGH.com. In that case, no change is required.)

Hopefully nothing blows up. We’ll know in 2 - 24 hours…. Wish me luck.

Man I LOVE GoDaddy.com! I’d heard horror stories about changing domain names. GoDaddy tech support assured me it would be “flawless”.

And it appears it was…. All it took was a couple of mouse clicks, and just under 2 hours.

If anyone notes anything goofy, please let me know!

Good luck! It looks like the switch was a success. I recently changed servers on my website, and I feel your pain. I didn’t exhale for 48 hours - Major anxiety attack. And, being the good little soldier I am, your link has been swapped.
