Goodbye to You, My Trusted Friend…

Woe is me. Pepsi Vanilla is no more.

Pepsi Vanilla, which I’ve fondly referred to as “The Nectar of the Gods,” has been discontinued.

I am deeply depressed.

It began to be hard to find in local grocery stores several weeks ago. But I could always find a 12 pack here and there. Occasionally I’d find a bottle in a corner store. Then 2 weeks ago it was gone. Nowhere to be found. No notice, no warning. No chance to stockpile. I didn’t even get to truly savor the last can (though I can tell you it was consumed sitting in the parking lot that’s also known as the Superstition Freeway. I remember it well. I only wish I had known then it would be my last chance to experience Nirvanna.)

I just called the Pepsi Consumer Hotline and a nice young lady named Teresa informed me that it has been discontinued due to poor sales. That certainly isn’t my fault, as I would often drink six or more a day.

Despite discontinuing production of this wonderful elixir, Pepsico still flaunts PepsiVanilla.com in my face!! I can download a Pepsi Vanilla wallpaper for my PC, but I can’t buy a can to drink?!? Does Pepsi understand what this is doing to me? Oh the humanity!

I ask my local readers to keep their eyes peeled for Pepsi Vanilla (Regular, NOT diet!). Should you locate any, BUY IT ALL. I will gladly reimburse you and pay a handsome finder’s fee as well.

At this moment, I can’t imagine life without Pepsi Vanilla. I know, I know, life will go on. Somehow.

Today is one of the saddest days of my life.

Jay - It’s time to listen to our better halves. You’re gonna have to be a do-it-yourself guy from now on. Carry vanilla extract with you, but it must be the real thing, not artificial. I bet you’ll find it’s better than nothing.

I’m truly sorry for your loss.

Take is easy now, you are actually making me cry. Couldn’t youjust take some pepsi, add more sweetner and about 1/8th teasp. of vanilla abstract?

Yikes! You LIKED vanilla pepsi? I was a big fan of vanilla coke and tried vanilla pepsi. Yikes. Undrinkable. Truely disgusting. I remember it having a metallic taste. Oh, well, diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks. Very funny post BTW. ;)

HA! We called Vanilla Coke “Nectar of the gods” and “Sweet Ambrosia”. I tried vanilla pepsi and it didn’t agree with me. There seemed to be an insane amount of sugar in vanilla coke and caffine. I was wired to the hilt after drinking one can. I stopped driking soda/pop last year. And all beverages with caffine. I can’t handle it, I get heart palpatations if I don’t drink at regular intervals. So I had to stop.
The funny thing is that I used to drink it in the morning to perk me up. But now that I have stopped I don’t feel run down in the morning like I used to when I was needing the caffine jolt.

Hi Jay:
Don’t despair. I think I can get Pepsi Vanilla in Canada. If I can I will keep you supplied.

Say it ain’t so Jay. I love Vanilla Pepsi. I’m going to have to hit all the supermarkets I can to get the last cases, like Elaine on Seinfeld canvassing to get the Today sponge when it was pulled off the market.

Jeff / Teresa - Appreciate the condolences. I will attempt to home-brew some Vanilla Pepsi.

Donny - Interesting. I found Vanilla Coke tasted like feet. (or what I assume feet would taste like). Vanilla Pepsi on the other hand was bliss. And that’s a bit odd, because I drink regular Coke and can’t stand regular Pepsi.

sKurt - Thanks, I’m actually going to try that Amazon link. I suspect I’ll get a note back saying “BACKORDERED, OUT OF STOCK” but it’s worth a shot. I tried eBay, but they had nothing (note to Donny, they did have an unopened can of Vanilla Coke (also discontinued) up for bid.)

Perry - keep an eye peeled. Let me know…

JF - Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I suggest hitting the stores NOW. Good luck, be sponge-worthy.

Have no fear Jay….you can always get some Pepsi Vanilla lip blam on eBay…LOL…tatse the flavor, but not the calories.

They also have an airplane made out of Pepsi Vanilla cans. You can put in on your desk for you to remember the good times you had with Pepsi Vanilla…..LMAO

Hi Jay,

You can get vanilla syrup in the grocery store, you will find it in the gourmet coffee section. They have a selection of very good ones, a drop or 2 in your Pepsi will take care of your Jones, lol.

Go to google and look up the phone number for Minges Bottling Company in Greenville, NC and ask to speak with Myles Minges or Ty. They own half of all the Pepsi distibutorship in NC and you know Pepsi was born right here in the Carolinas - in New Bern to be exact; some 20 minutes away.

See if they can get a special order shipped to you. Might as well talk to the owners themselves!

Saw your sad story…and trust me I’ve had to hear it when they took it off the shelves in Colorado. However, I just ordered some through http://www.drsoda.com. Hubby likes the diet, but I believe I saw the regular. You can ship it ground, it’s more than what you buy, but if you really want it! Ha Ha! Good luck!

Dude, i feel sorry for you. But guess what? i still go to school and my school had a few pepsi vanillas locked away in an abandoned locker room building. They all expired in 2005 and 2006, but they still tasted good. I had the last pepsi vanilla there yesterday from may of 06 and it’s like january of 08 now. Oh well for you.

Jay - The Phoenix Real Estate Guy 01.09.08 at 11:06 pm

“Person Guy” - do you know how much you could have gotten for one of those Pepsi Vanillas? Seriously, I would have paid a ridiculous amount of money for one.

I hate you.  :)

I join you in mourning the loss of my best drinking buddy, pepsi vanilla. Though I’d buy the diet one. I would buy 6-8 12 packs of this at a time, every 2-4 weeks.
So how can they say sales were poor? Obviously they never counted inventory from my state.
But don’t give up yet. They said they’s stop making pepsi vanilla a couple of years ago. Then all of a sudden, it was available again.
I do add vanilla extract to my diet pepsi now. Not the same. sigh…
