Bear with me while I work on switching the blog hosting from GoDaddy to Media Temple. Hopefully in a couple of hours, all will be well.
Things will likely be goofy for awhile… Will update here when I think I’m done.
Update: All seems well. It can take a couple of days for the DNS propagation to complete — meaning sometimes you might get the site from GoDaddy, sometimes from Media Temple. But other than that, I think things are fine. If you see something wonky, please advise. Hopefully things speed up. Or at least don’t on occasion slow to an excruciating crawl.
At least the ding-dang timeouts have ceased for now. That is encouraging.

1Just an FYI. I am a Media Temple customer and am not totally satisfied. They have hiccups fairly often, their grid servers can be slow and their phone support is understaffed.
Although I like their service I get better service at godaddy but I don’t use their hosting so I can’t speak for it but I have domains registered there.
Best of luck.

2Thanks WT. Seems there are lots of varying opinions on just about every hosting company. In the past, I’ve always had fabulous customer service with GoDaddy. Interestingly, that was always when I was buying something. As soon as I started having a ton of problems with site speed and availability, nothing seemed to be their problem.
I’ll keep using GD for registering domains. Time will tell with MT, but I can say their tech support today was fantastic.

3Hi Jay, just wanted to let you know that it does seem like your pages load faster since the switch.

4That’s great - My IT guy is putting our new real estate sites on Media Temple… I did not realize there were any negatives to the company. He made it sound like they were one of the best in the industry. My new sites do seem slow but I thought it was just his bloated code. deretiree dot com and deh2o dot com both are works in progress but have already started to rank well and bring in their first leads. I hope WT is wrong about the company.

5Mike - look deep enough and you’ll find someone that hates their hosting service.
Granted, I’ve only been using Media Temple for a week, but I’ve had zero problems. They were swift and efficient setting it up, and the one time I called customer support they were fabulous.
Only time will tell of course, but I am tickled pink with MT.

6Your site seems to be running a little faster for me. Did you do any fancy DNS forwarding when you changed or did you just do a straight switch.

7Nothing fancy AREB. Basically I copied files over to the new host and when that was done, changed the name servers from GoDaddy to Media Temple.
I didn’t delete the files on GD until I was sure everything was solid with MT.

8Thats good to know. I keep playing with the idea of changing hosting companies. I noticed our server goes down on occassion. Of course its hard to know if it goes down more or less than the average hosting company.

9My web consultant advised me to switch hosts, so I did extensive research. I really wanted to like MT based on my initial research, but found too many negative reviews, as I dug a little deeper. I ended up staying right where I was, for now. Please update us on how MT works out for you. I’m looking for something new for my next blog.

10Hey, no problem. We understand. Switching hosting providers is not a fun thing…. but congrats on getting your DNS propagation done! That’s always a sigh of relief.
Best regards,
Martin

11Hi Jay! I know you’re a little, um, busy right now with all the chatter on the RE.net, but could you please drop a note about how things are going with MT? Inquiring minds are dying to know.
Thank you!
