I Need Technorati Help!

I don’t understand what’s going on at Technorati…

The blog’s URL, http://www.buygilberthomes.com is not to be found in their blog directory. However, you CAN find this URL in their directory, http://www.buygilberthomes.com/?p=96 — which of course leads to a specific post on this blog.

I have “claimed” buygilberthomes.com on Technorati (I did this over a year ago). It tells me that it was last updated something like 159 days ago.

I have not claimed the post #96 “blog”. It tells me it was updated hours ago and is showing the previous post as it’s most recent. In moments, it will be showing this post as belonging to http://www.buygilberthomes.com/?p=96 but NOT http://www.buygilberthomes.com

What gives? Why does Technorati think one entry from this blog is the home of a blog, yet it doesn’t recognize that the true home of this blog even exists?

Drop ‘em a note. They need to re-index you, which they will take care of within a couple of days. Technorati is over-taxed, alas.

I’m having Technorati problems too – my new site is not being indexed at all. I think Greg’s right, they are just overwhelmed.

Also – have a look at your permalink structure in the Wordpress settings. I’ve got mine setup to /%postname%/ so that the url displays the post title, for example. That way you don’t have post #’s displayed and it’s better for your SEO strength.

Thanks guys! I dinked around with stuff and got nowhere. Thought I’d ask around before throwing in the towel…

If I change the permalink structure to post titles, will all those links out there pointing to post numbers be whacked?

I suppose I could just change, take a look and if they are whacked, change it back. Duh.

Edited to add: changing permalinks to post titles was a snap! And no, it didn’t whack old links to post numbers already out there. I shoulda done that a year ago. Thanks for the tip Joel!

You need help? I finally sent them a note. My blog
rolls but shows up in technorati as being having 5 blogs
linked to it and my standing is dropping like crazy, yet my
hits are going up. I am about ready to stop using
the service because I am so frustrated.

Yeah, I think technorati has been overwelmed for some time.

We still can’t get them to index the posts on ActiveRain, most of the other blog search engines have. I’ve been emailing back and forth with their support for the last three months, no luck so far.

I was just able to get to the point where I could claim my blog on the site yesterday and it indexed the posts, but doesn’t look like it’s updating.
