The real estate blogiverse is all abuzz with the recent posting by Inman News of the "25 Most Influential Real Estate Bloggers: 2007".
Posting a "top anything" list is never an easy task. Overall I think Inman did an admirable job selecting 25 blogs out of hundreds (thousands?). I agree with most of their selections and only a couple made me say, "Huh?".
Building such a list is, for the most part, incredibly subjective. Everyone has an opinion and no "Top 25" list will please the masses.
I am proud to call many of the Inman selections my friend. I read them all regularly (well, there is one exception) and have conversed on-line, over the phone and/or in person with the majority. Several read and comment right here on our little piece of the re.net. They are great bloggers, and even better people.
I've pondered over the last 24 hours or so whether or not to post my selections for #26 – 50. I have 242 blogs in my feed reader, 161 of which are loosely categorized as "real estate blogs". And yes, I read them all every day. Sure I skim some posts, but the majority are read in their entirety. (Note to several: if you set your feeds to display full posts and not snippets or titles only, I for one would read your entire post more often…) There is a lot of really good stuff out there.
Please don't be offended if I left you off this list. I certainly don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I picked these 25 for a multitude of reasons — they are well written, have great subject material, and they inspire me to be a better blogger. I could *easily* have put all 161 on the list. But let's face it — no one would read through all of them so there wouldn't be much point. Rest assured that if you're in my feed reader, you've got at least one fan out there (and quite likely, many more).
If you're interested, you can view my entire feed reader list on my public Bloglines account. (And if you are not in my reader, let me know!)
And now, here's the Phoenix Real Estate Guy's #26 – 50 Real Estate Blog List (in alphabetical order by blog name):
1000Watt Blog – Multiple Authors (newish, but very well done)
Altos Research – Mike Simonsen (loads of stat analysis)
America's Most Opinionated Mortgage Broker – Brian Brady (can't swing a dead cat without smacking Brian somewhere on the Internet)
Arizona Mortgage Guru – Shailesh Ghimire (any consumer looking for answers should come here)
Arizona Real Estate Notebook – John Wake (the Stats and Charting Master)
Bawldguy Talking – Jeff Brown (brilliant investment advice)
Charleston Real Estate Blog – Howard Arnoff (excellent local coverage and opinion)
CreditBloggers – Multiple Authors (consumer paradise)
Curbed – Multiple Authors (the most glaring ommission on Inman's list IMHO)
Dalton's AZ Homes – Jonathan Dalton (one of the best pure writers in the re.net)
GeekEstate Blog – Multiple Authors (newish. Nice array of contributors. Full disclosure–I post there)
Housing Doom – Twist (yes, a "bubble blog". But far superior to the Inman selection).
LittlePinkHouses - Multiple Authors (almost missed the list due to low posting frequency. But when they post, it's da bomb!)
Mike's Corner – Michael Price (LOADS of info for the RE pro)
miOaklandCounty – Maureen Francis (superior local "voice")
MOCO Real Estate News – Todd Tarson (Owns NW Arizona. Lots of local RE insider info)
RE Agent in CT – Athol Kay (Funny, opinionated. The Bad MLS Pic feature is priceless)
Real Central VA – Jim Duncan (Outstanding local and industry coverage)
Real Estate Blog Lab – Dave Smith (The place to stop for "under the hood" blogging advice)
Real Estate Zebra – Daniel Rothamel (Yet another Virginia gem. What is it with Charlottesville? (other than I was born there…)
RealtorAgentGenius – Benn Rosales (Relatively new, great industry insight)reRevealed – Lani Anglin (a non-agent insight on real restate. Hook 'em!)
Saskatoon Real Estate – Norm Fisher (our international pick, and the best Point2 blog out there)
San Diego Home Blog – Kris Berg (how can you not just adore Kris Berg? One of the funniest and sharpest in the entire blogiverse)
XBroker – Jeff Corbett (superior insight and just a little opinionated…)

HELL YEAH!
Aw, Jay, you are sweet. I am happy to be on your list and I love the company there.
Your biggest fan in MI.
LOL I support this list.
Actually being in the top 25 would have been a little spooky, I’m enjoying 26-50 though.
Though of course we’re still missing some of my favorites.
Home Staging Rants and Ravings by Craig Schiller.
Jeff Turners Active Rain blog is excellent.
RSS Pieces?
Housechick is great.
Bigger Pockets? That blog is huge.
Irvine Housing Blog.
Tom Royce at The Real Estate Bloggers is a font of up to date news.
No real solution is there.
Like him or not, I thought Casey Serin’s now closed blog was one of the most influential of 2007.
Yea, Jay! Great list and thank you for including our little blog-lacking-influence. We are honored!!
One screw-up, though. Where’s the Phoenix Real Estate Guy in this list?
Wow, Kris. Excellent point.
Thanks ladies (and Athol).
Dustin’s Rule #2: avoid blatant self-promotion (yeah, like I’ve really followed that rule before now…)
Good point on Serin Mo. The guy is a crook and a fool, IMHO, but it’s hard to deny his impact on the RE blogiverse in the last year.
And that’s a great supplement Athol. All of those are in my feed reader with the exception of Irvine Housing. Just stopped by there and saw graphs and charts and rock stars. It’s been added, thanks!
Jay -
Thank you for the inclusion and I agree wholeheartedly with Kris and Maureen.
*Blush*
Jay, thanks so much for the, the uh, . . . .hmmmm.
Nice list, most in my feed reader too and all excellent and deserving authors. Looking forward to clicking through to a couple I’m not up on. Good Work.
Thank you Jay. I really appreciate the encouragement, and it’s particularly meaningful coming from someone who has been so “influential” to me.
Lol! Hey, my anti-spam word is “jay.” Very subtle “self promotion.”
I will not avoid shameless self promotion

Wait, never mind. I’ll take the mention. Now if only you’ll take my calls
Jay, I’m honored to be on your list with many of the finest in the blogosphere and you are so right about Curbed, top drawer.
The only reason folks seriously call me brilliant is when the lights or the sun hits my head just right.
Thanks so much.
Great list Jay. I had a similar post today on RBF. I made mine about some of the early pioneers in RE Blogging. Since we all learn from each other as to how to move forward, I think the most influential bloggers were the ones who blazed the trail.
Jay, this is a great list, but when I saw the title in my reader, I had hoped you would have included TPREG, you really do need to be there…
25 and a half, perhaps?
Jay,
Thanks for the inclusion. I like your list better, and not because I’m on it, either.
Jay,
Thanks, I’m just now finding this post since the server the lab is on was down for part of the day I was busy holding my breath and hoping the smoke would clear quickly. Go Daddy had the honor of blowing the server. To their credit it was back up on less than 60 minutes. But that 60 minutes was more like an hour. Whew.
I’ll have to remember this alphabetical listing thing, might change the name to A REal Estate Blog Lab. Oh, well just an idea.
I’m on board with the rest of the crew you are definately in the top 5 on my list. Oh what list is that . . .
Thanks he he, made the top 100 Jonathan posted too.
Jay, ballsy move putting this together, but I think you actually did a bang up job. Many on your list were the ones I missed on Inman’s- In fact, I’m still trying to choke down a few of their selections that I pop no-doze in order to read. That aside, the two that are absolute top on my list are YOU and Kris Berg.
Judging by the growth of commenters on your site in the past several months, there’s no doubt I’m not the only one that agrees.
So congrats on making my list- that’s saying something.
Hmmm…Inman is for tekkies and TPREG talks about real estate in Phx.
I lend in AZ.
Ergo, this is the list I want to be on.
Thanks, Jay
Hey – thanks for the props! That’s some good company.
Jay,
I echo the sentiments of others, you should have started this list with your own blog. Thanks for the inclusion, I am humbled.
MP
Good work Jay – nice list… (sniff) looks like I need to do more work to make your top 25…
Thanks for the suggestion that my little slice of the real estate blogiverse should be included folks. I appreciate it.
Steve – I’ve got ExecutiveConversations in my “marketing/business” category, not my “real estate” category. Just how I assign things — pretty meaningless really. Rest assured you’re way up there in that grouping! Heck, you’re in the group with Seth Godin, that can’t be all bad!
Thanks for shining the light on the other greats out there. Jay, you are truly THE Phoenix Real Estate Guy. You are on everbody who’s anybody’s list.
I’d be interested to see how this list has changed in the last year. Any plans for 2008 version?
*Portland Real Estate Cafes last blog post..Wonderful Terra Linda Location
@Portland – Inman is set to release their “Top 25 Influential Real Estate Bloggers 2008″ list toward the end of October. I may do another “26 – 50″ list. It would be interesting to see how it changes. Sadly, two on this list are no longer publishing, one recently had an “ownership change” (but will be fine). The rest are still charging.
My tastes have changed somewhat in the last year, but this is still a list of some very, very good bloggers.
The biggest surprise to me in re-reading this post was the fact that when I wrote it, I had 242 blogs in my feed reader. Today I have 673, and I just purged over 100 inactive blogs. I have a blogging problem.
