Inside the Manhattan Googleplex

Google Cafeteria Menu
Ok, this has nothing to do with the Inman Connect Conference, or real estate in general. But it was an interesting night as several Connect attendees somehow managed to crash a party at Google’s Manhattan office.

I wish I had more pictures, but as I was shooting in the “break room”, a burly security guard tapped me on the shoulder and waited while I deleted my pics. I managed to save two – the menu from the cafeteria (where the food is free for employees) and the cafe itself.

GoogleCafe

If I am not mistaken, that’s the world famous Dustin Luther in the background, preparing to enter the “Break room”. I hear Dustin had his own run-in with the photo police…

The Googleplex was pretty amazing. Huge projection TV’s, games such as shuffleboard, air hockey, basketball, etc. Lots of toys about and a fully stocked bar. I talked to one Googler and asked him what he did. He wouldn’t spill anything other than to say he was “on break”.

Must be a rough place to work.

I don’t really know how we managed to fanagle our way in. There were about 15 of us at the Active Rain party. A to be unnamed Zillow employee mentioned they had an invite to the Google party and the nextthing you know, we were all piling into cabs and headed downtown.

Showing IDs at GoogleWe were required to show our ID’s so the security guard could check “the list”. Of course only one of was on said list….

Many thanks to the ultra-cool security guard who printed us up passes anyway for us to get in.

I had a blast, drinking Google’s beer, chatting with a couple of Googler’s and running into a bunch of folks formerly with Point2 Agent.

I’ll say one thing about the Manhattan Googleplex — the view sucks:

Definitely a fun party!  Smaller than normal Google parties, but it was a great networking event.

This sounds like a school boy prank and must have been absolutely thrilling. I too envy you your escapade.  Congratulations.

Jay – Great post! I concur!

(Inside joke)

By the way, I am still waiting on the picture you so kindly snapped of Craig and me. I need to impress my teenagers – fast! They think I am uncool. (Go figure.)

Wow, how cool. Jay, what’s the next party you are going to? I’ll be there for sure. You seem to be at the coolest blogging parties…your on television, your hanging out with the googlers and there is beer flowing at every venue. The life of a blogger is starting to sound more and more ‘Hollywood’ every day.
