April 15th. Quite likely my least favorite day of the year.

In case you’ve been living in a cave all your life (in which case, it’s doubtful you have Internet access to read this) that means your Federal and State (if applicable) income tax filing is due.

For me, it means an extension is due (too easy with IRS Form 4868, and Arizona Form 204 if you are from around here. Try Googling “Your State Department of Revenue” if you reside elsewhere).

Here’s a handy article from U.S. News and World Report if you are a procrastinator like me: Hurry Up! Tax Tips at the 11th Hour

Shailesh has a cool chart showing how your tax dollars are spent. Well, “cool” may not be the right word. Ask my 16 year-old son about how he feels paying for Social Security and Medicare. He pretty much summed up his feelings with, “What crap. I’m 16, I’ll never see any of this money.”

And via Jonathan Miller, here is why April 15th is the chosen day.

I’ll see if I can get a photo of the line at the post office at 11:45 tonight.

Update: I didn’t get a picture while I sat in a mile long (literally) line for the Post Office drop off last night. But I did get a pic of this license plate yesterday afternoon…
