Kids Drown

I put up a post or two every year about this, hoping and praying that just one person sees it and and stops and thinks.

Please, watch your kids around water. EVERY SECOND, EVERY DAY.

It only takes a second- I remember when my kids were about 2 and 3- 2 adults in the water with me holding my oldest son, and my younger son jumped in the pool unexpectedly, so my reaction was to catch my younger son, so I let go of my oldest- who could not swim, and my friend grabbed him.
It was very scary. You absolutely need to watch the kids all the time. Even with my kids now 15 and 17, they are not allowed to swim unless I am home and can keep an eye on them. Great post and reminder.

Every summer this is the sad situation. I too hope that people heed your advise. Experience however tells me that some will not. Sad, but true.

I had a friend who asked a relative to watch her child while she went to the restroom. The child almost drowned during that time. The woman’s attention was distracted because she wasn’t used to watching children. It’s important to watch your own children. Do not ever rely on someone else who is not used to watching your child.

Very good post that has prompted me to upgrade my pool fencing. I’d been meaning to do it for too long - so thanks for the prompt

I agree - I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to supervise children in and around the home and in the back garden. The dangers of playing near water are very real and we must never forget it only takes a second for accidents to happen.

Supervising your kids in and around a swimming pool is vital, I share your concerns. A swimming pool can be a great place for kids to play but its important that they play safely :-)

I myself nearly got drown when i was about five years old. We were having fun in the water with my older cousins when I unknowingly went to the deeper side of the pool. My whole family was there but unfortunately not one kept an eye on me. I could not overemphasize the need to keep a watchful eye on kids so that fun family gatherings will not turn tragic.
