Joe’s Farm Grill: Gilbert’s Latest Culinary Delight

Joe's Farm Grill combines a unique atmosphere with some darn fine food.  Located at 3000 E. Ray Road in Gilbert, AZ, near the intersection of Ray and Higley, Joe's Farm Grill is an integral component in Argritopia, a different sort of master planned community that's making a mark in Gilbert real estate.

Located in the agro-commercial area of Agritopia, Joe's Farm Grill is housed in a converted home built in 1966. It's sort of a mid-century modern style burger stand that really has to be seen to be appreciated. Dining is available inside as well as outside under some magnificent, HUGE trees (complete with misting systems for those toasty summer days).

While the building is unique, and worth the visit, it's the food that makes Joe's Farm Grill truly special. We've dined there several times. I've made an attempt to sample various menu items, but I have a hard time not ordering the massive slab of baby back ribs. I've eaten ribs all over the country and suffice it to say that these are way, WAY up the list. They are "fall off the bone" tender and have the perfect combination of smoked flavor and Joe's famous tangy bar-b-que sauce. (If you've ever eaten at Joe's Real BBQ in downtown Gilbert, they are "sister" restaurants run by the same Joe Johnston family. In fact, Joe's Farm Grill is housed in the one-time Johnston family home – modified of course).

In addition to the ribs, I've had the good pleasure of sampling the smoked pork, burgers, pizza, fries (*outstanding* and the potatoes are grown right next door on The Farm at Agritopia) and real ice cream chocolate malts (sinful). I need to get around to the chicken, which looks and smells fabulous. The only thing stopping me from trying it is those damn ribs… Oh, and there are salads too, but if you've ever seen me and this thing that hangs over my belt and onto my lap, you'd understand that given the choice of gorging myself on meat and potatoes or eating a salad, well….

Trust me on this one folks. If you appreciate simple food prepared exceptionally well with literally farm fresh ingredients, you must dine at Joe's Farm Grill. Try the ribs, the pork, the grilled pizza, the burgers, the hand-breaded onion rings, the killer fries, the shakes. Those I can personally vouch for. Try the chicken, and even the salad and let me know what you think.

I suspect if you go tonight, you'll see the Thompson family stuffing themselves in the outside picnic area… my mouth is watering as I write this… must… eat… ribs….

And this is going to sound weird, but when you go, you HAVE to check out the bathroom….

The Agritopia master-planned community itself is more than worthy of it's own blog post, and that will be coming shortly.

Joe's Farm Grill is located at 3000 E. Ray Road in Gilbert, AZ (about 1/4 mile west of Higley). Open seven days a week. Hours are Sunday – Thursday 11:00am – 9:00pm, Friday and Saturday  11:00am – 10:00pm.

I just went there, and to say I was not impressed is putting it mildly. The cole slaw had no taste, the sauce on the pizza was way too sweet. the ranch dressing for the salad had no taste. the pulled pork sandwich was the only thing that saved this trip. I will go back, one more time, to see if it was just a bad day, or a bad selection of food that I made.

Kelly –

Thanks for the feedback! The last time I was at the Farm Grill, I was less than impressed. Hopefully this isn’t a trend they have going….

My wife however did get a chicken pesto sandwich that was grand.

For the record, I’ve been back to Joe’s Farm Grill several times since that last comment and found the food and service back up to well above average….
