Beginning next Saturday (May 22, 2010), that bastion of downtown Gilbert dining, Joe’s Real BBQ, begins serving breakfast.
Joe, Tad and company opened the doors today for a little sneak preview of the new breakfast menu. Quite a few folks were invited in to test out the menu and help Joe’s work out the kinks.
Breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out, and given the quality of the regular fare at Joe’s Real BBQ, I was expecting the breakfast outing to be a real treat.
And I was not disappointed.
I had the “Big Breakfast Plate” with scrambled eggs, bacon, brisket hash, a biscuit and breakfast potatoes.
Francy ordered up “Joe’s Mother Lode Burrito” which is a big (really big) burro stuffed with brisket hash, eggs and cheese and smothered in house sausage gravy.
My daughter Lauren opted for the Biscuits and Gravy plate. Both my ladies got a side of Raspberry Bread Pudding.
All of our food was outstanding. I was particularly fond of the thick cut and smoked bacon and the brisket hash. Francy proclaimed she could eat a shoe if it was covered in the sausage gravy and Lauren simply said, “If you want to try these biscuits and gravy you better hurry”.
A friend of mine said the “Downtown Baked Eggs” were excellent, and others raved about yogurt parfait with fruit and homemade granola and the blueberry cream cheese coffee cake. The Big Breakfast Burrito also got high marks from those in attendance.
The menu has a great selection, including a nifty “BYOB” section – Build Your Own Breakfast. Portions are plentiful and prices reasonable.

Joe’s will be serving breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00am – 11:00am.
I’m going to go way out on a limb and predict it will be a smashing success. We’ll definitely be back.
