Here’s something that is a little different…
I recently got approved by the Arizona Department of Real Estate to teach Continuing Education hours. In and of itself, that’s not so different. There are a gazillion people certified to teach real estate classes.
What is a little different is the fine folks at First American Title’s Eagle University have helped me get a class on electronic media approved for 3 continuing education hours in the Commissioner’s Standards category. We’ll be integrating how to “do social media” with bits and pieces of how to stay within State and Department advertising and disclosure guidelines, professional conduct, broker supervision and control, and more.
I promise it won’t be as boring as it sounds.
Plans are to teach the course at various locations across Arizona. We’ll also be developing other credit-hour courses as well.
A big thanks to First American for working with me (and having faith that I won’t say anything to get us all fired). Hopefully we’ll spread a little knowledge and have some fun in the process.
The first class will be delivered sometime in late July, date to be determined.

Congratulations to First American Title for recognizing Jay as a quality instructor!
Congratulations Jay for taking on such an exiciting journey. Your students are fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from one of the best dang bloggers on the planet.
Major kudos!
Congratulations Jay. I will keep my eyes open for your class. I would love to attend. I am sure you will keep us up-to-date through your blog.
I wonder if I could get the Idaho RE commission to give reciprocity for Arizona CE classes??? ; )
Congratulations Jay! It’s important for education stay current with the times!

Congrats, Jay. I’m sure your classes will be lively. I just attended an Eagle University class this week and was impressed with how well they handled it.
Thanks everyone! As Rob mentioned in his comment, First American / Eagle University does a great job with their classes. The beauty of it for me as an instructor is they handle all the logistics. I just show up and teach. Will post here when the first class date is set!
@Cathey – I’m not sure how the approval for credit works with the Dept of Real Estate. A Thesis class would be pretty specific, but I’d be happy to develop one. Eagle U tries to avoid classes for general hours as there are so many available and typically people need, and have a harder time finding, the non-general hours. But I’ll sure ask!
Many Congratulation jay and best of luck for Future. I hope you will definitely get best knowledge form your all classes. And plz remind me through your blog..
You’ll be spectacular.
Congrats on getting to teach for them! I am sure that you will make the classes interesting; too bad I can’t get my continuing ed classes for the Texas RE commission through you!
Congrats on getting to teach technology credits at the Eagle University! How very exciting for you and your students!
I’m looking forward to how your first class goes! I am sure it will be great; congrats!

Yep..Congrats.Seems like you are a humorous guy also where you can add your personality to the class, thus getting more attention from students. Better teacher = better agents.
Hi Jay- Sounds exciting…I enjoy such things; but then again, I’m an instructor and some might say a borderline masochist. ;->
Several folks have been after me to develop a similar course, including HomeSmart’s own Candace Robinson (one of our bloggers extraordinaire). I just have not made it a priority in part because I find an increasing # of quality programs like this that can be (& are) being delivered by more true subject matter experts than I…by those such as yourself.
In any event, I concur – you’ll do great! Lin Ferrara over at Eagle University, along with the whole group at FATCO is tremendous; you’ll do them proud and vice versa.
P.S. To “There are a gazillion people certified to teach real estate classes”…well, I know what you’re saying, but there’s really not that many of us when you boil it down. The AZ Dept of RE says there’s around 1,400 certified CE instructors in the State of Arizona. I’d guess that around ½ of those only taught one CE course, one time. From that, I’d safely surmise that about 300 teach with any frequency (say – at least twice per year) and that maybe less than half of those (150 ish?), if that, instruct for CE at least once per month.

Congrats on the new teaching job; I am sure it will be quite an adventure for you and your students. I’m looking forward to the updates!
Martin –
Since the class is “certified” by the Arizona Dept of Real Estate, they’re only offered in person, here is AZ. You’re welcome to come on down and attend though!
Hi Jay. I live in Surprise AZ, and missed your class out here due to being out of town. I was going to try and get to your class at Arrowhead today but had clients unexpectedly drop in from out of town. When will your next west valley class be?
I specialize in the active retirement communities of Sun City Grand, Sun City Festival, West, Corte Bella, etc. and already do a great deal of blogging. Will I learn anything new at this class? or is it more for people just wanting to get started?
Kathy – it's really an intro class, but we're working on the next level class. Currently nothing scheduled in the west valley…
