Moments ago I was driving from my house to the local AM/PM store to pick up a 64 oz lemonade (only 85 cents! And necessary after spending 2 hours fixing the irrigation system…).
Standing there on the corner in Higley Groves were 2 young kids, with a sign that they were collecting money for something.
I figured they wanted a new Xbox game or something.
Turns out Codie and Taylor, both age 10, were collecting money for cancer. They were both *extremely* polite young people. They'd been standing out in the 106 degree heat for 2 hours and have collected $22!
I say GOOD FOR YOU CODIE AND TAYLOR!!
I'm sure your parents are very proud of you. Heck, *I'm* proud of you and I don't even know you!
Seeing a couple of kids willing to give up a Saturday afternoon, and suffer in the heat for a great cause sure does make you feel good about the world. These kids are special, and they're going to do good things the rest of their lives.
(Note to Taylor and Codie's parents: Your kids are awesome. They were very hesitant to give me their names. It was only after I told them I just wanted their first names only for a story that they would tell me.)

Thank you so much for all your nice comments. Codie is our oldest son, and Taylor is our niece. They are collecting money for Jette (Codie’s younger brother/Taylor’s cousin). They have been waiting at home for the past few days for news on what Jette has. We told them this afternoon and they wanted to get out and help! So this is their solution! Codie was so funny. When I told him I would write a story about them on the internet he said, “That’s Codie, spelled C O D I E”. Both he and Taylor seemed like a couple of great kids.

I love it when kids get involved like this. For 5 years I have been involved in Relay For Life of Lake Travis and every year kids have been some of the leading fundraisers.
