New Blog of the Week: Bonzai Real Estate Blog

by Jay - The Phoenix Real Estate Guy on February 1, 2008

Normally I won’t “promote” a blog until it’s been going for at least a few months. Usually one needs time to see if 1) the blogger is committed; and 2) the blogger can put at least some semblance of coherent sentences together.

But I’m telling you, Bonzai Real Estate Blog by Mike Farmer, is going to be a good one.

I first met Mike on RELiberation, Point2 Agent’s community blogging platform. I was immediately struck by Mike’s insight and humor — and his ability to communicate his thoughts in the written form.

See “Real Estate in A Brave New World” for an example.

Call me Pollyannaish, call me Panglossian, call me a cheerleader or a died-in-the-wool fool sporting rose-colored glasses, but I foresee a brave new world in real estate, and in this one, no Soma is required and freedom of information will break you or make you. All that’s required is to pay attention, get wired to the internet, use the best of the old practices, work hard and gain the knowledge necessary to be a bona fide expert who possesses the service skills of a top-notch waitress at a Texas roadhouse.

Anyone that can use Panglossian in a sentence deserves credit (and yes, I had to look it up).

What is the point of Bonzai?

From the “About” page:

The purpose of Bonzai is to write. Love of writing is the main motivation. But like for all writers, readership and input is important. The hope and intent is to create something interesting and entertaining in regards to the broad subject of real estate that will tweak the imagination of readers and make a somewhat dry subject pleasurable and informative enough to subscribe to and return to.

Trust me, it will be interesting and entertaining.

Welcome to the Blogosphere Mike. Now you are committed.

Hey, Jay

I had to get my calculator out to determine the sum of 4 plus 8 in order to post this and get past the spam protection.

Thanks! You don’t know how much I appreciate this.

Yes, I’m committed. Onward!

Mike

You’re going to rock Mike, no question.

6 + 8 is the one that always gets me…

I hate it when the answer is more than my fingers and I’ve got to take my shoes off to count.

I’ve been reading Mike’s blog posts for a while now. I have no doubt he’s going to get a huge following in the not too distant future. He’s funny, smart, silly and informative - often all at the same time. Makes for a great read and I always feel better informed for spending the time to read his blogs.

This is like a teaser, or a trailer for a movie. Sounds very interesting and amusing. Shall visit and see for myself. Thanks for the pointer.

Mike was committed a long time ago. Somehow he got hold of a laptop and an internet connection in that padded cell. Good thing!

His blog is a NO follow blog, so it won’t generate any backlinks for comments. Why read blogs that are no follow when there are a lot of great blogs that are DO follow? I hope he adopts a “U Comment, I Follow” policy.

I’ll have to get Jay to educate me on follow and no follow because I’m not following.

Mike is definitely a talented writer. How is he at selling houses? I sell very well but write rather badly. Anyway, great first couple of posts, keep up the good work. Sum of 3 and 5? Sum means plus right? ;)

Thanks for the Tip. I am going to take a look at his blog.

Thanks for the heads up, Jay. It looks like a good one!

Mike Farmer, you have your links going to those that comment with a redirect. This makes it so there is no value to the poster and with so many blogs out there to read many people (correctly or incorrectly) choose to do so on blogs that will provide them a clean link.

This post will help you to better understand the do follow, no follow issue, and good luck with your new blog!
