This is about the last thing a parent wants to see in their neighborhood. Fortunately, the little boy was able to get away from this sick bastard  — who is still roaming the streets.

The kidnapping attempt happened about a half a mile from my home. That is WAY too close for comfort! "Things like that just don't happen around here" has been heard all around the neighborhood the last few days.

Sadly, things like this can happen anywhere.

Here is the Gilbert Police Bulletin

Community Alert Bulletin

Release – Child Crimes Unit

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Attempted Kidnapping

DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT: Wednesday, June 20 at 6:15 p.m.

LOCATION OF INCIDENT: 4100 Block of East Harvard Ave., Gilbert, AZ

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: Boy Escapes Abduction Attempt

GILBERT – A man tried to abduct an 8-year-old Gilbert boy Wednesday evening.

An eight year old boy was riding his bicycle in the 4100 block of East Harvard about 6:15 p.m. when he escaped what he believed was an abduction attempt. A man driving a pickup truck stopped, exited the truck and lunged at the boy. The frightened boy rode his bike away and escaped the alleged abduction attempt. The boy was shaken but unharmed.

The boy described the attacker’s vehicle as a dark green single-cab pickup truck with silver writing on the tailgate. There are possible scratches on the driver side door.

The boy described his attacker as mid to late teens Hispanic with a shaved head, thin mustache, with a small amount of facial hair beneath his lower lip, light complexion, and wearing sunglasses, a black short sleeve t-shirt, black jeans and white tennis shoes. The attacker possibly had a tattoo on his arm. He told police he did not know which way the attacker fled.

Gilbert police are working with the Mesa Police Department to determine if there is a connection with this incident and recent similar incidents in Mesa.

Anyone with additional information should call the Gilbert Police Department at (480) 503-6500.

==========

There have been four other recent abduction attempts in Mesa. Police are trying to determine if they are all connected.

Good posting to get it out there. I dealt with those #@!*% for 20 years, after they were caught. There’s only one answer for them and its final. Unfortunately, they will always be lerking on our streets.

Neighbors talking to neighbors, getting to know one another and looking out for each other is the best way to keep a neighborhood and our children safe. If kids know who their neighbors are, they will be qicker to run to that neighbor’s home for safety.

That is every parent’s worse nightmare. Thankfully the boy was alert and was able to escape. I hope they catch this pervert before he actually succeeds in his kidnapping attempts.

This kinda thing always gives me the cold chills – it is my biggest fear. I know full well that I can’t shelter my children forever, so I appreciate it when active citizens do what you you have done here. Information sources on this type of thing need to be wide spread and with a variety of media to ensure lots of people know.
Thanks for looking out for the kids.
