Odysseus Makes His Picks

The Odysseus Awards are up at Bloodhound.

Not surprisingly, three of the "A-listers", the "Big Dogs", the "Big Kahunas" of the real estate blogiverse were tapped as winners. If I had a tenth the talent of these people, I'd be one happy camper.

Odysseus Medal: Dan Melson for Should Lenders Be Permitted to Sell Real Estate?

Black Pearl Award: Kris Berg with Dogs Playing Poker – What do you do with great property photos?.

The People's Choice: Dustin Luther with Rules for Rain City Guide Contributors. (Which are great rules for contributing to any blog)

Picking winners from the short list can not be an easy task….

You can contribute your own material, or nominate anyone else's here.

Jay Thompson

I'm a real estate broker in Phoenix, Arizona and the publisher of the Phoenix Real Estate Guy blog. I tend to drive too fast and scream at the University of Texas and Denver Broncos football teams. My two kids are smarter than most adults I know and my wife is simply amazing.

The Phoenix Real Estate Guy runs on AgentPress

AgentPress is a specialized WordPress theme for real estate agents and brokers, powered by the industry standard Genesis Framework. With AgentPress on your team, you're empowered to get the most out of WordPress for online marketing.

Genesis provides the secure and search-engine-optimized foundation that powers any successful website. And AgentPress provides the specific listing and lead-generation functionality real estate pros need to succeed.

We always appreciate your comments! Phoenix Real Estate Guy uses two commenting systems, Facebook and LiveFyre. LiveFyre is the most robust system (and easy to use!). It allows you to login with Twitter, Facebook, Google+ LinkedIn, OpenId, LiveFyre and as a "Guest". I recommend getting a LiveFyre account, it has some great features (just click the LiveFyre button when you write your comment).

BLOG COMMENT POLICY: We respectfully ask that you use your real name (first name only is fine) and not use keywords (Why no keywords?). The only real "comment rules" are be civil -- no personal attacks -- and no advertising. (See the full comment policy here). Opinion and debate are welcome, but attack the idea, not the person.

Jay - you're right about how much talent some bloggers have. They can do in their sleep what I have to think really hard about. It is amazing how difficult writing can be for some or us.

Howard - those two "rules" (plus a third -- link liberally to others) really sum it all up. I might also add "Be honest, and admit mistakes".

Apply that, and the rest takes care of itself.

It's indeed a heckuva competition. Congrats on making the short list!

Jay, I thought Dustin made an interesting comment about the rules of blogging while not personally being a big fan of rules.

He said "contributors 'break' the unwritten rules because they almost always get immediate (and rarely pleasant) feedback from the community.

Here are the only two “rules” that come to mind:

If you are going to attack something… attack ideas, not people. (i.e. 'your idea sucks'… not 'you suck')

Avoid obvious self-promotion."

There are those we both know who might benefit from Dustin's wisdom in understanding what makes the great blog that RCG is.

By the way, Greg has a heckuva competition going on.
