French swimmer Alain Bernard, the world record holder in the 100m Freestyle, said before the games, “The Americans? We’re going to smash them. That’s what we came here for.”

I don’t think so buddy . . .

This was one of the best “Olympic moments” I’ve ever seen.

If you missed it, you should watch this video

UPDATE: Here is a video of the 4 x 100 relay medal ceremony

Me too — it doesn’t get much better than that.

That last 50 meters was indicative of what Americans can do. We can do whatever it takes to win. The race was beautiful to watch. Thanks for posting these awesome pictures. GO TEAM USA!

I’ve watched it more than once now, and still can’t believe Jason Lezak came from that far back. Dude is an ANIMAL.

My TiVo cut off just as the team was stepping on the medal stand. If anyone knows where there is a video of the National Anthem, I’d love to see it.

Jay,

You forgot to point out that the 4th leg (in which the Americans came from behind to win ) was the leg that Alain Bernard swam for the French. Not only did Alain insert foot in mouth and lose, but he also lost his world record (for the 100 Free) in the process. That’s got to hurt. Vive le Americans (my high school French is not so good, no?)

I can’t believe NBC or some company has a virtual stranglehold on the video to this race. Nowhere can it be found. For those of us that aren’t in the US, if anyone knows how we can see the Olympics on the web, please let me know. This day and age… technology and the web… and can’t see a race like that… unreal.

It was very exciting. One of the color guys was pissing me off saying how the Americans were’nt gonn do it. It was a very proud moment for many Americans, I’m sure. Phelps is Superman.

Greg -

I agree. It’s almost impossible to find live video here in the US. And apparently elsewhere.

Here is a link to an interesting article on what the International Olympic Committee is doing (or not) with video:

There may be some techy/geeky/approaching illegal things you can do. Some are mentioned in the article.

Thanks so much for your service Greg, be safe!

im trying to find the video from here in korea. f***ing nbc is doing this so they can sell a dvd of the entire olympics after its over.. you watch. i can get to their site, but the video never plays. i can only watch the olympics here on korean tv, and they only show stuff if a korean is in it… they are so biased here its sick. i wish i had afn tv… they show the nbc feed. f***ers

Jay’s Note: Kevin - I appreciate your frustration, it must be a royal pain. I tweaked some of your language just a tad to keep us “family friendly”. Check the link in my comment just above yours (#11). It talks about how NBC is restricting some video feeds to certain countries. Appears to be an advertising thing. Greedy B**tards…

Though I am not an American, I was amaze of what Phelps did. At very young age he already got so many awards as a swimmer. Applaud for you Phelps.

Actually you can find live video of every event on nbcolympics.com…of course you have to watch it in the middle of the night. However, the great thing about NBC’s coverage is that they have archived just about every moment of the Olympics online. I watched the Men’s Triathalon, without commentary, from start to finish (no commercials either) and it was an awesome race.

Even though that was almost 2 months ago, I still get chills thinking about Lezak’s come from behind victory. These olympics really got me to stand up and cheer, I don’t know what it was.
