Monday afternoon I’ll be jetting off to San Francisco to attend RE Bar Camp and Inman’s Bloggers Connect and Real Estate Connect.
I’m looking forward to moderating a couple of panels at Bloggers Connect. The learning will be good, and the networking incredible.
The weather?

It’s going to be cool this week in Phoenix. It’s going to be downright wintry in San Fran. A 50 degree temperature change should be interesting.
Francy and the team will be holding down the fort while I’m gone. I’ll try to post a few times from SF, much to the boredom of our non-realtor readers. I may pull up and repeat a few old posts as well.
If you are interested, you can follow along on many blogs and Twitter streams. Check out Ines’ http://sfconnectism.wordpress.com/ which should be great!
I’ll be at the Parc 55 Hotel. If you’re to any of the events, give me a call and let’s meet face-to-face!
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to this blog via email or RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Last week I wrote about my 16 year old son being in an automobile accident. “The Call” came from the Payson Regional Medical Center, where James and one of his friends were transported.
Thankfully, James and his friends that were riding with him were all OK. They were banged up, cut up and bruised, but we were all thankful it wasn’t worse.
James is, understandably, a little leery of driving. But he’s gotten behind the wheel, and is “getting back on that horse that threw him’.
The car finally made it back to Phoenix today, and Francy and I went to see it for the first time.
The photos don’t really capture extent of the damage, or the emotions that run through your head knowing your 16 year old son was behind the wheel. Seeing the car for the first time actually freaked me out worse than The Call. If the main point of impact had been 12 inches further down the car and hit the drivers door, I suspect we’d have had a far far different outcome.
It’s a testament to seat belts, and the crash-worthiness of the Infiniti.
Here’s the entire photo set.
And some samples…

“US Airways denies it skimps on fuel at risk of safety”
This, 3 days before I board a plane. A US Airways plane, naturally.
At least they deny it….
Reminds me of the time I was a healthy young person going in for minor surgery. The night before the surgery, I was in the hospital reading Coma by Robin Cook. You know, the story about healthy young people that go in for minor surgery, and wind up brain dead and having their organs harvested.
My operating room number was even the same OR number where the shenanigans happened in Coma.
That kinda freaked me out.
Yeah, reading that book at that time was a real smart move. Reading airline safety news three days prior to a flight isn’t a whole lot smarter.
Sometimes I never learn.

Day 3 of the U.S. News & World Report “Housing Rumble” debate has been posted.
On Day 2 my opponent in the debate, Greg Healy, Vice President of Operations at ForSalebyOwner.com, posted his first “volley”.
Greg’s post was primarily (and not surprisingly) focused on the “6% Commission”, which is an erroneous assumption. First, all commissions are negotiable. Factually, the national average commission is around 5.1%. That’s an average, so of course in some places real estate commissions are typically higher, and in some places they are lower than 5.1%.
Then of course there is the common misconception that of the mystical 6%, all of it goes to the listing agent/broker. Try half that, at best.
My debate posts are limited to 400 words, which is probably a good thing as I could have written a War and Peace length tome in rebuttal to Greg’s post. There are several other points I wanted to make, but there wasn’t enough space available.
A response from Greg is due tomorrow, and I’ll have one more shot to fire on Friday.
Thanks to all who have expressed support here, elsewhere, and on the U.S.News & World Report blog!
