Phoenix Real Estate Guy Goes Pink

You may be asking yourself, “What’s up with the bright pink border here and the ribbon in the header graphic?”

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So Phoenix Real Estate Guy will be sporting pink for the month.

Breast cancer sucks. It is the most common cancer in women in the United States (men can get it too!) and about 178,000 women were found to have invasive breast cancer in 2007 — almost 500 per day, every day. Over 40,000 die from it every year.

What can you do to help? Research takes money, and lots of it. Awareness helps. As with most forms of cancer, early detection is key. Self exams and mammograms are the key players in early detection. If you are reading this and you are female, stop reading right now and go do a self-exam.

Run the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, there are many local events. The Phoenix Race for the Cure event is on October 12. Find your local event here.

Don’t have any money? Can’t run? Volunteer some time. Write a blog post. Do something to help stop this insidious disease.

I love seeing the walkers in Tempe every year. I mean it they just swarm the streets for several days.

Jay,

Thanks for doing this. I hope you will forgive my indulgence in this link. http://tinyurl.com/5d4xze

This single car wash event sponsored by the local bank raised over $5000 in 6 hours.

I was particularly amazed when city employees driving a huge dump truck stopped in the middle of the street blocking rush hour traffic, got out and handed over $100. Denise started crying. Yes, she finished the 60 miles. I'm still in awe!

Jay, once again you have inspired me. I'm going "in the pink" too. My (small) office has lost two lovely ladies to breast cancer, both were under 40 and neither had cancer in their family. It's a tragic disease.

Nice touch Jay. It's unfortunately very rare that any of us doesn't know someone close to us that hasn't been affected by cancer.

One of my clients is walking the 60 miles this weekend, while I'll be up in Show Low riding my mountain bike in support of the Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center.

And FYI, another fun way to support Susan G. Komen for the cure is the annual BMW drive for the cure event. BMW donates money for every mile driven, in the lowest pressure, completely no-hassle test drive you will ever get to do.

Another insightful post, Jay. While running may not be my sport of choice, I'm definitely into volunteering. There are so many lives eternally changed because of this insufferable disease.

Jay - thank you for bringing attention to such a worthwhile cause. Everyone knows someone who has been impacted by this desease. Thanks again,

Jay,

Just wanted to say thank you for doing this. We all know someone affected by Breast Cancer. Two people very close to me were diagnosed with it last year. I now make as big of a donation as my wallet lets at least once a year.

I like the header ribbon but I think the border might be a bit too much pink, just kidding. I participated in several bicycle races to help raise money for charities over the summer and I never considered promoting them on my website. It makes perfect sense I get decent local traffic. It really is amazing how much you can get out of participating in an event like this. I never use it to network or try to drum up business that's not why I'm there, but the people and friends you can make events like this along with the money you can help raise really makes it a great experience.

Thanks for putting this up. Some men are in risk of having breast cancer as well. Supporting the cause will show more benefit and maybe raise money for this situation.
