I really have no idea where this is going to take me. . .

Video blogging.

I heard Gary Vaynerchuk say in his Inman Connect NYC keynote that he thought the “.tv” domain would become the second most powerful top level domain (after .com of course). Beats me if he’s right, but I don’t think it’s a stretch.

Since that keynote, there have been several posts about Gary’s talk extolling both its virtues and flaws.

Personally, I see a lot of genius in what Gary says. Does everything apply to the real estate vertical? Of course not. But much of it can be modified, and real estate needs some help. Home buyers and sellers need help. For those that are better visual learners, video may be the best way to provide that help.

Video clearly has a place in real estate, and in the future of the internet. In March of 2008, 11.5 billion videos were watched online in the U.S alone

I don’t think the only application for video in real estate are home walk-throughs. Crappy as they are, The Streets of Phoenix series here has been well received — not by just real estate agents, but buy home buyers and sellers.

Will Phoenix Real Estate Guy TV be worth a damn? I have no idea. But it’ll be fun. Who knows where it will go.

Episode #1 is up. If you are so compelled, take a trip over to Phoenix Real Estate Guy TV and let me know what you think.

Being able to see the outside as well as the inside of the homes on videos that are up for sale will save time and gas for home buyers–and the agents, too. Nobody need drive their cars to go to the physical location, unless they are on the last stage of the selling process. It’s nice.

Web videos are power and video blogging is definitely the in thing. Couple of week back heard that YouTube is on it’s way to become the second biggest search engine. Web telecasts are also getting popular especially where they have got good broadband connectivity.

I’ve started doing more video this year, including adding some video to my blogs. But, I’m not sure .tv is going to have a big impact.

I think the message is more important than the medium.

Then again…..

Video blogging, or “vlogging” is huge for sharing how to info; there is a great parenting resource of video blogs at http://www.newbaby.com, if that helps you come up with any ideas or topics that might branch out beyond real estate into just fun, general information for your fellow neighbors. Vlogging is fun because it lets your “readers” connect with you in a different way-hear your voice, see you in action, etc. Good luck; I’m sure you’ve got some great ideas for your video blogs!

I think video will become more and more popular, provided bandwidth costs go down. If not, then unless compression gets better, it may be to expensive to host it yourself. YouTube spends $1 million a day on just bandwidth.

I know a realtor who is working with an investor from London looking to invest $7 million in the Edmonton market. How did they cross paths? Google Ads and the realtors video blog (the client in London felt compfortable because he could see who he was speaking with).

It does seem as though google is giving more weight to video results than it used to do. Probably a sign of the times to come.

Yes I agree that .TV may be a very big hit in the near future but it will face competition from other equally wonderful new TLDs such as .BIZ, .JOBS and .MOBI. There is also a certain company out there who is actively promoting .WS, saying that the abbreviation represents ‘website’.

Video is the way to go.
Bandwidth is an issue possibly now but in a year or 2 shouldn’t be.

Video is far more personal aand viral.
