“Point 2 Fan” sent me an email earlier this afternoon. Normally I’d ignore something like this, but thought I’d share it for a couple of reasons: 1) It gives me the opportunity to clarify a few things; and 2) the sender basically dared me to post it.
Warning: contains some “colorful” language.

Subject: Nice work.I have been reading your blog posts on Point 2 Agent and have a question.
Whats your fucking problem?
I am a Point 2 user and so are you. Why do you want to drag out what you perceive as a probelm with the company that provides your web site? That makes no sense. I can’t believe your this stupid. You wrote something on reliberation once and said a blogger should avoid shameless self promotion. So how about following your own advice sometime. Or do you just think your hot shit with your #1 Point 2 site (if you even really are #1 thats probably a lie to) so you get to say whatever you want? I bet all the people at Point2 working on YOUR site are sick of your shit.
Doing this all in the name of getting traffic to your blog seems like a waste of time. Nice how you get links to yourself from InmanNews, but so what? Do you think those links are going to bring you the business you so desparately need?
You are damaging a great company and I just don’t understand. I read your posts on the message boards and you seem to like Point 2 and I will admit you are very helpful in those messages. Now you are just out to destroy the company you claim you like. You make no sense.
I can’t believe your doing this all for traffic. There is more to life than web traffic. Your hurting a lot of peoples feelings with the crap your posting. Besides I doubt that many people even read or care what you write so how about doing the few that do read your posts a favor and back the fuck off before you screw it up for everyone!
So post this on your stupid blog you fucking loser. I’ll be shocked if you do since it will point out to the 14 people reading what a moron you really are.
Well…
I won’t respond to everything “Point 2 Fan” says. Doing so would be a complete waste of time.
For the record though, the posts I’ve made recently regarding the executive resignations at Point2 Technologies were not written with the intent to drive traffic to this blog. I don’t write to drive traffic. “Linkbaiting“, while a legitimate traffic tactic (done correctly), isn’t something I ever intentionally set out to do.
I also didn’t write these posts to hurt anyone’s feelings. I have the utmost respect for both those that have recently resigned from Point2, and for those that remain. I consider many of them friends. As I’ve already stated, I wish both groups of people all the best.
As a Point2 user, I have a vested interest in the future direction and vision of the company. They are my web solution provider of choice. I believe in the product, I believe in the people, and I believe in what I know to be their direction and vision. My concern now is has that vision and direction changed? I think that Point2 waited far too long to release the news about this situation, and I’d still like more information about the potential changes in direction the company may be undertaking. As a paying customer I believe that is a fair and reasonable request.
I certainly have no desire to “damage or destroy” Point2 in any way, shape or fashion. As a weblogger, I noticed something askew, and as the information rolled in, I felt compelled to share my observations on what was happening. I felt what I was seeing was important enough to share with some of my readers, and others in the “RE.net”. We’re talking about a very significant event occurring at the leading provider of real estate web solutions. It’s important stuff to many, and in my opinion it needed to be said.
How anything I’ve written about the situation at Point2 could be construed as “shameless self-promotion” is beyond me. Have these posts driven traffic to this blog? Yes, traffic over the past 4 days has more than doubled. Do I expect that to get me more business? No, and that’s fine as that was never the intent.
Are all the people at Point2 “sick of my shit”? I don’t know, you’d have to ask them. There’s no doubt in my mind that in all likelihood both Barry Willick, P2 President and Roger Noujeim, P2 Director of Public Relations are none-too-happy with what I’ve written — and with some of the comments that have resulted. I’ve met both Barry and Roger and respect them as both professionals and human beings. If they are angry with me, I understand. I probably would be too if I were in their position. I sincerely hope that they will come to understand why I’ve posted about this. I don’t expect them to like it, but hopefully they can understand why I wrote these posts. They are more than welcome to contact me and discuss it.
The internet and this thing we call weblogging has changed how “news” is disseminated. Gone are the days when a company can carefully craft a press release and distribute it to the world expecting that to be the first, best and last word on the subject. Like, love or hate it, that’s the connected world we live in.
So “Point 2 Fan” (and any others that may harbor similar feelings) I hope this helps to explain why I posted about the executive resignations at Point2. I think P2 will get through this transition. Yes, they’ve lost a significant amount of talent, and some real visionaries. But there is a significant amount of talent still there. The future, as I know it, is bright for Point2 the company and their customers.
