Reader Email Asks, “What’s Your F**ing Problem?”

“Point 2 Fan” sent me an email earlier this afternoon. Normally I’d ignore something like this, but thought I’d share it for a couple of reasons: 1) It gives me the opportunity to clarify a few things; and 2) the sender basically dared me to post it.

Warning: contains some “colorful” language.

Subject: Nice work.

I have been reading your blog posts on Point 2 Agent and have a question.

Whats your fucking problem?

I am a Point 2 user and so are you. Why do you want to drag out what you perceive as a probelm with the company that provides your web site? That makes no sense. I can’t believe your this stupid. You wrote something on reliberation once and said a blogger should avoid shameless self promotion. So how about following your own advice sometime. Or do you just think your hot shit with your #1 Point 2 site (if you even really are #1 thats probably a lie to) so you get to say whatever you want? I bet all the people at Point2 working on YOUR site are sick of your shit.

Doing this all in the name of getting traffic to your blog seems like a waste of time. Nice how you get links to yourself from InmanNews, but so what? Do you think those links are going to bring you the business you so desparately need?

You are damaging a great company and I just don’t understand. I read your posts on the message boards and you seem to like Point 2 and I will admit you are very helpful in those messages. Now you are just out to destroy the company you claim you like. You make no sense.

I can’t believe your doing this all for traffic. There is more to life than web traffic. Your hurting a lot of peoples feelings with the crap your posting. Besides I doubt that many people even read or care what you write so how about doing the few that do read your posts a favor and back the fuck off before you screw it up for everyone!

So post this on your stupid blog you fucking loser. I’ll be shocked if you do since it will point out to the 14 people reading what a moron you really are.

Well…

I won’t respond to everything “Point 2 Fan” says. Doing so would be a complete waste of time.

For the record though, the posts I’ve made recently regarding the executive resignations at Point2 Technologies were not written with the intent to drive traffic to this blog. I don’t write to drive traffic. “Linkbaiting“, while a legitimate traffic tactic (done correctly), isn’t something I ever intentionally set out to do.

I also didn’t write these posts to hurt anyone’s feelings. I have the utmost respect for both those that have recently resigned from Point2, and for those that remain. I consider many of them friends. As I’ve already stated, I wish both groups of people all the best.

As a Point2 user, I have a vested interest in the future direction and vision of the company. They are my web solution provider of choice. I believe in the product, I believe in the people, and I believe in what I know to be their direction and vision. My concern now is has that vision and direction changed? I think that Point2 waited far too long to release the news about this situation, and I’d still like more information about the potential changes in direction the company may be undertaking. As a paying customer I believe that is a fair and reasonable request.

I certainly have no desire to “damage or destroy” Point2 in any way, shape or fashion. As a weblogger, I noticed something askew, and as the information rolled in, I felt compelled to share my observations on what was happening. I felt what I was seeing was important enough to share with some of my readers, and others in the “RE.net”. We’re talking about a very significant event occurring at the leading provider of real estate web solutions. It’s important stuff to many, and in my opinion it needed to be said.

How anything I’ve written about the situation at Point2 could be construed as “shameless self-promotion” is beyond me. Have these posts driven traffic to this blog? Yes, traffic over the past 4 days has more than doubled. Do I expect that to get me more business? No, and that’s fine as that was never the intent.

Are all the people at Point2 “sick of my shit”? I don’t know, you’d have to ask them. There’s no doubt in my mind that in all likelihood both Barry Willick, P2 President and Roger Noujeim, P2 Director of Public Relations are none-too-happy with what I’ve written — and with some of the comments that have resulted. I’ve met both Barry and Roger and respect them as both professionals and human beings. If they are angry with me, I understand. I probably would be too if I were in their position. I sincerely hope that they will come to understand why I’ve posted about this. I don’t expect them to like it, but hopefully they can understand why I wrote these posts. They are more than welcome to contact me and discuss it.

The internet and this thing we call weblogging has changed how “news” is disseminated. Gone are the days when a company can carefully craft a press release and distribute it to the world expecting that to be the first, best and last word on the subject. Like, love or hate it, that’s the connected world we live in.

So “Point 2 Fan” (and any others that may harbor similar feelings) I hope this helps to explain why I posted about the executive resignations at Point2. I think P2 will get through this transition. Yes, they’ve lost a significant amount of talent, and some real visionaries. But there is a significant amount of talent still there. The future, as I know it, is bright for Point2 the company and their customers.

I'm sick of folks like this who sob and whine at the hint of a truthful, critical review.

Listen folks, this is the real world. We agents pay thousands of dollars per year for mostly crappy/half-developed tech 'solutions.' Who cares if you part of the Point2 Network or any other network?

It's honestly like some agents / vendors forget that we are the customer (hey, we have to put up with OUR customers' shit!). This is part of the arrangement. Personally, I have spent hours helping vendors understand fundamental flaws they can't even see in their own products - b/c they don't use them! Usually I'm considered a bother. Well, you can bet that I mention these shortcomings whenever I talk about the product with anyone.

If you are looking for a Point2 sales pitch, I suggest you visit their homepage.

Jay, I have been following your posts on Point2 very closely, as they are my website provider too. And while I'm not a paying customer yet (I'm still standard), I feel I have a right to know this stuff. I just want to thank you for your excellent coverage and your excellent blog, which I've learned a lot from.

I think Becky's right - he's working on a case of Bud.

Look at that -you had more than 14 readers.

If you had not posted the news, I would not have seen it. Any P2 user should be curious about what is going on up north. I love it when people like your fan are such cowards that they don't even have the courage to identify themselves.

How does constructive, honest criticism hurt? They are a for-profit company and they need to understand what their customer's wants. Is it better to say "everything's peachy" and then just cancel the service?

Dude might want to try decaf.

Wow, P2 Fan could use a good thesarus in addition to spell check. F is not the only noun, verb, adjective available for use in the 21st century, although it *does* tend to be my favorite, too.

Candice is right. If you're not p*ssing someone off, you're not doing your job. I learned that in the PTA, of all places.

When I was in radio full time, we would occasionally receive the verbal equivalent to the 'Fan's' post via call-in, and I'm not sure which method delivers the more potent dose of discomfort to its receiver! :)

There were three words of response -- the only three I'd ever use.

"THANKS FOR LISTENING!"

With all the energy around the P2 situation and J's excellent, unbiased organizing and transmitting of current information (which is all he's doing, really, for our convenience--and I THANK YOU for making it easy for me to follow this story), it's not all that surprising that there would be one angry individual in the mix.

But no worries, J!

"This is how you know you're getting ahead, when you come under fire." (Denis Waitley)

Can't choose all your 'listeners' but you can appreciate them anyway! :)

Point 2 Fan has offended my sense of propriety. I find nothing in your blogs that calls for this kind of reaction. Even assuming that he has got some reason to be annoyed with your posts, the language used, the tone of it and the general hostility is in very poor taste.

On the other hand, without wanting to sound like Jay Fan, your response has been the kind of writing that the blog world would like to see and appreciate.

I do hope that Point 2 Fan will read the comments too and send you an apology for having written it while under the influence or while suffering from a massive hangover. If he does, I shall treat him to a real hot Thai Meal.

I no Jay. I reely need too werk on it. I promice to start beeing more open with how I feal.

Oh BTW....I found out which office your fan works at!!!

A little bitter? :)

The notion that talking about something is hurtful is a little weak. I don't see anything destructive about your posts.

While the loss of all of these great people is significant, I suspect that Point2 has had worse days that they managed to put behind them. The network will continue to grow in numbers and I'm sure that you and other members will continue to play some role in influencing its direction.

Personally, I'm excited to see what develops as a result of these changes. If you can get the whole team working towards one "vision" and all pulling in the same direction it could be a very good thing.

The departing crew will probably bring something new and exciting to the table as well.

I realize that "Point 2 Fan" was being serious and attempting to scold you bigtime, Jay, but in my opinion his/her ranting was hilarious - much like a Saturday Night Live spoof or something.

You have approached this topic in a very business-like, matter of fact manner. Excellent 'reporting'! Thanks for being there for all of us, my friend.

Does Mr. Fan understand that any increase in traffic to your blog is most likely real estate professionals and not potential customers? Buyers and Sellers most likely don't even know what Point 2 is, nor do they care :)

Your emailer didn't seem to bother to read what you wrote and how professionally you shared your findings.

Anonymity, profanity and the inability to spell tells you all you need to know about this moron.

Every time I think stoopid peeple don't blog, I read a oommint like that one. Your reely a good gye Jay.

Crap -- writing those two silly sentences gave me a headache. :) You just can't make up stuff that stupid.

jay, it seems this email came from someone that is close to the situation, if he knows how the folks at the company are "feeling" and he knows some of your posts at relib. The problem with emails like this is that the poster doesn't feel strong enough to sign their name to it. At least everything you have done or said or written has been completely above board, with malice towards none and done as a gentleman. Anon emailer may not like the message, but he/she is shooting the messenger when perhaps they should be aiming for a different target. And one can only ignore it when they do not raise to the level of the bar that you have set, a bar that includes signing your work with your own name...

JMHO

P.S. keep up the good work.

This person might want to learn how to spell first ... or at least to use spellcheck!

Jay, you're just posting what many of us are thinking ... we have curious minds and want to know what's going on ... what's wrong with that? It's our money we're investing into our business and our future, so it's only natural we want to know what direction is P2 heading.

The guy's an idiot Jay. He's one of those people stuck in the 1980s who thinks that if you don't talk about the bad news then no one will find out.

"Sounds like someone ate an extra bowl of stupid for breakfast this morning….."

You crack me up Becky. But really, you should stop beating around the bush and tell us how you really feel. :)

Sounds like someone ate an extra bowl of stupid for breakfast this morning.....

He's just pissed cuz he didn't think of posting about it before you did.

Nice fake email. Guess he doesn't even have the balls to use his real name and email.

Merry effing Christmas to him too!!
