Real Estate Blogging - Link Building

in Blogging / Social Networking

I had the pleasure of speaking at the Arizona Real Estate Blogging Network meeting today. The topic of discussion was link building — though we digressed on more than one occasion, which was great!

Somehow the hour long presentation turned into two plus hours. But nobody I’m aware of poked a stick in their eye so it couldn’t have been too boring. Thanks to all for the great questions and interaction!

Candace Robinson even streamed it live over the Internet and several folks joined in from across the country. Pretty cool! Thanks for participating!

A special thanks goes out to everyone that came, Candace our organizer, and to our sponsors Land America and On Q Financial.

As promised, here is the presentation. I’ll post it on the AZREBN site too, as soon as I remember my password…

I saw the tweet on Twitter about it being broadcast live. Joined late but sound didn’t work on my speakers for some crazy reason, so I plugged in earphones and was laying on the ground listening to it. Will be better prepared next time.

Jay - As always it’s a pleasure to be working with you anywhere! You’re easy going, likable, knowledgeable and charming self makes the time fly by! Who would have thought you could stand in one place and talk so long? Your presentation live, and recorded was/is fantastic. The live show has some improvements to be had, but we did attract from coast (New Jersey) to coast (California) of a few followers on AZREBN Live TV…we will be more prepared next time! It was a fabulous day as always with the members and you! You rock! I will get the Video up shortly on AZREBN. Thanks again, I owe ya!

Thanks for posting this slide show. To bad those of us in Houston do not have a similar group. I can see how a number of digressions could be very enjoyable on this topic.

Even though I did not get a chance to see the feed I would like to extend a big thank you to Candace.

Jay, you rocked the house! Thanks for taking the time to answer so many other questions as well. How cool of you to share your presentation with everyone. What GREAT information for people that are interested in these topics. I learned a lot and appreciate your time…

Jay - Bet it was a great discussion! Link building is always a fun and fascinating subject ;-). Eric Blackwell (Eric on Search) gave a great link building talk at the REW SEO convention a couple of weeks ago. If you don’t know Eric (he’s a buddy of Eric Bramlett) you should introduce yourself. Tell him I sent you ;)

Jay - thank you for taking time to share your extensive knowledge on blogging. You were the presenter at my first blogging seminar 6 months ago or so - I gained tremendous insight and you encouraged us to “dig in” and BLOG! Today you clued us in on linking, valuable information and it was presented in a entertaining and organized fashion. Bit by bit, it starts to sink in - lots to learn. Thank you again for your generous contribution to our education! You are awesome!

Jay - I already thanked you for all your instruction on the topic on linking in a blog. I have an elevated knowledge of the topic now. I then decided why I was thinking about it I would link to your blog……..only to stop and think - I do not know technically how to do that. I looked at your site, nope, not there! Then I thought to myself, silly girl , I have to link from my site to yours. Then I thought, it is late, I would rather have another glass of wine right now and figure all this out tomorrow. Candace is rolling her eyes about now! I have come so far but so much to learn! Thanks again! ; )

WoW! All the great stuff in RE seems to be happening in AZ. Here in NJ we just sit around and watch the stock fall - almost as much fun as watching paint dry. :-) Thanks for keeping it real.

Arizona DOES seem to be the place for Real Estate Blogger. I feel like a “lone” rider here in Massachusetts… Most of the Massachusetts blogs I’ve seen are nothing like the one I see in AZ…

Good article and the slideshow helps “assimilate” the information easier.

Thanks goes out to Nick for awarding me the “dunce” award - LOL Happy to amuse! Don’t know if it was brain overload, fatigue or that first glass of wine, but I got it Nick! I was making it way more complicated that it was. Another amazing thing has happened - somehow I have pinged and track backed to Jay??…….. (I do know how that happened).
Jay- question for you - should I have used your title of your blog post in my title in order to give you the SEO love you were talking about yesterday? Not quite sure!

Jay,
Thank you so much for sharing all this information. I have been trying to link build for a few months now and having be doing somethings improperly. In my opinion, this is the easiest to understand guide that I have found.

Thanks Again,

@Jim - I think Arizona has some of the best real estate bloggers in the country. Given our population, some just might say we’re the epicenter of real estate blogging…

@Tina - Candace is working on posting the video somewhere. There appears to have been problems with capturing the streaming version, but she has some of it on a Flipcam as well. It will be posted at http://www.azrealestateblogs.com/ at some point.

@Gay - the ping/trackbacks happen automatically! One of the beautiful things about Wordpress. You did it perfectly!

@Brendan - thanks! Glad you found it useful.

Great post… I stumbled upon this post looking for ways to increase my exposure on my real estate website. The above slides were very helpful. I am actually surprised to see this type of presentation to “real estate agents”. It is a good thing. One thing I would like to mention about real estate websites is… If you are using the website that comes with your dues from your broker I recommend getting your own domain on a different server. I have looked at many of those sites and they seem to not rank well at all in the SERPs. Why? Because they don’t have much unique content. They us alot of frames and limit the control you have over the content you can add.

Of course that is only my opinion.

Thanks

Great slideshow, I have to give frequent presentations and lessons on the subject so I examined yours well :)

Although the concepts seem simple to most of us, i have found many others who have a hard time grasping all of these at once. One of my main objectives is to keep things simple and understandable and your presentation was definitely both. Good Show Man!

Sweet slides Jay. I am glad you went through defining the different link types as well, because there tends to be quite a bit of misunderstanding out there on the terms :).

I am bummed I missed the presentation as link building (especially inbound/backlinks) has to be one of the more challenging aspects out there so hopefully everyone gets on it and starts going after it!

Great presentation and the audio was decent quality as well. Local real estate has great potential for ranking in the SERPS - and video sites have brought new potential to pre-selling properties as well as providing links. It’s a win-win.

29 Edge from The Foreclosure and Credit Crisis 09.29.08 at 3:28 pm

Boise, that’s definitely the first step every agent needs to take.

Everyone wants to host your site, but not for altruistic reasons :) With something this easy, there’s no reason not to do whatever it takes to do it on your terms for total control.

Just wanted to update you on the video version of Sept 2008 AZREBN meetup, the video turned out to be almost 2.5 hrs worth of coverage, I’m trying to get it down to 1.0 hr and then I have to break it down to segments to publish it up on the web..what a project, but the video turned out great, except when I ran out of space on my 60 minute tape and had to jump to a back up flip mino… I am working as fast as time allows!

Hi Jay - Another great contribution with lots of key information. I have shared your presentation with some other folks who are working on their blogs as well. Thanks for being a great resource!

33 Don 10.02.08 at 11:44 am

Link building is a “blue collar” job . . . it requires consistency. After building a steady stream of traffic to my blog over several months, I went and changed the url by replacing the old one . . . oops! I didn’t re-direct traffic and my traffic went to zilch!

Trying to rebuild the links and contacts has been a long process.

Jay,

That’s Awesome. I saw it over on one of Vlad’s blogs and I had to come here to comment. It’s simple, you got all the importat stuff in and got it across in a clear concise maner. I wish I had know some of this stuff sooner.

I guess I wish I found your blog sooner.
