Remind me to stop gloating about the Phoenix weather…

in Phoenix Life, Random Musings

I’m fortunate to have a lot of friends across the country, both inside and outside the real estate space.

During the spring, fall and winter months, I have what I’m sure is an annoying propensity to gloat about the perfect weather in Phoenix. I like to send my friends messages about it being 80 degrees in January. This is particularly enjoyable when they are up to their elbows in snow. I send them photos of me riding around in my Jeep with the top down in December. I find this funny. It’s probably safe to assume they do not see the humor.

Invariably one or more of my friends will say something along the lines of, “Shut the hell up and talk to me in the summer!”

And here we are. June was quite lovely in Phoenix, and unusually cool. Sadly, temperature averages have a way of. . . well, averaging out over time.

Here’s the 5 day high and low temperature forecast for Phoenix (Gilbert actually, but close enough).

Yes, it's hot in Phoenix in July

One of my favorite sayings – “You never have to shovel sunshine” – looses its effectiveness when it’s 117 freaking degrees outside.

Happy now?

  • I hate this time of the year. It gives me knots in my stomach how hot it is.
  • Yeah, I always loved visiting my aunt in Phoenix when it was wintertime, it was such a huge vacation from the snow we got at home. But it is always her looking to come north for a vacation escape from the Phoenix summers. One summer it was so hot outside that her back window shattered in her car for no apparent reason.
  • Reading your forecast, I broke a sweat here in New York :)
  • This is absolutely my favorite time of year in Arizona! Long hikes and mountain bike rides are surreal - and I seem to have the whole desert to myself.

Cold hurts. Hot is... pure energy. Fershure. ;-)
  • On the other hand, it's just a 3 hour drive to perfect summer weather in Flagstaff, or 5 hours to San Diego.

I gotta get a vacation home in one of those places.

I hear Park City, Utah is a super easy air commute. A neighbor has a summer home in a small town on the water near Seattle. Cedar City, Utah has that neat Shakespeare Festival.

Only 3 more months of summer!

  • I hear your complaint! It's way to hot. Those jumps between air conditioners are no fun.

  • I believe in air conditioning, swimming pools, icy margaritas and that I'll take a few months of 100 plus degrees in Phoenix over -40 degree windchills and snow up the gazoonie in MN for 8 months out of the year!

I'm so grateful that our brain cells thawed out long enough to realize we didn't have to stay in the frozen MN tundra. I've never regretted one single minute of our decision to relocate to Phoenix.

Bring it on....it's a DRY heat!!
  • It is hot down there right now, but don't be too quick to trade it for the cold. I can drag your but back up here to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada this January and average it all out for you if you like. :)
  • I was in Phoenix last weekend visiting some friends and the heat blew me away. Especially when we decided to play 36 holes of golf, but at least we had the course to ourselves. Needless to say, I was happy to get back to the cool ocean breezes of San Diego. But no matter the temp, I always have a fabulous time in and around Phoenix.

  • Actually, my favorite time of year to golf is in the summer. Right about 5:30 in the afternoon, you can get onto great courses for cheap rates and finish 18 holes (My record is 18 holes in 1 hour 35 minutes). The weather is perfect for golf with the shadows growing and a comfortable warmness in the air.

  • I would rather have the hot then have to bundle up and still be freezing... give me the heat any day

  • I miss living in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. My wife made me move since she didn't like it being warm all year round.....yeah I know. We did a complete 180 and now live in Portland Oregon were it rains half the year. Though Portland is quite a bit more fun though.

I miss going out at midnight and swimming in my warm pool.
