Comedian George Carlin passed away yesterday at the age of 71.
Many probably recall his “Seven Dirty Words” bit — about the seven words you can never say on television and radio.
@JSwesey on Twitter today had these seven words for Carlin: brilliant, honest, funny, human, irreverent, bald, legendary.
As a teenager in the ‘70s, I listened to a lot of George Carlin. While he could certainly be irreverent, crass and shocking at times, he was a comedic genius.
Here’s a classic bit, “Football vs. baseball”. And for those that think Carlin did nothing but swear like a sailor, count the dirty words in this one. You won’t get above “zero”….
Some of my favorite Carlinisms:
“What if there were no hypothetical questions?”
“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.”
“Women like silent men, they think they’re listening.”
“The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I’m just not close enough to get the job done.”
“There’s no present. There’s only the immediate future and the recent past.”

I think Seinfeld said it best. “You could remove all of the jokes from George Carlin’s bits and you’d still have an interesting discussion.”

Jay, our buddy @BradCoy shared this classic qoute..
“I’m always relieved when someone is delivering a eulogy and I realize I’m listening to it.” - George Carlin

I loved George Carlin. Very tragic that he should pass so soon. He made a lot of people laugh and I imagine he will bring his sardonic wit to the pearly gates. He will be missed.

I will miss him a lot, he could always bring a smile to your lips and there is not enough of that left in the world today.
