Scottsdale Dog Saves Owners Life by Dialing 911

From the Cool Story of the Day Files.

As reported in the Arizona Republic:

“Man’s best friend” may not cut it for a Scottsdale dog named Buddy – a trained German shepherd who saved his owner’s life by dialing 911 when he began having a seizure, police said Sunday.

On the recorded 911 call placed Wednesday, Buddy is heard whimpering and barking after the confused dispatcher answers the phone and repeatedly asks if the caller needs help.

“Hello, this is 911. Hello … Can you hear me? Is there somebody there you can give the phone to,” says the dispatcher, Chris Trott.

Buddy rocks!

I have two dogs. One is wicked smart and could probably learn to do this. The other one? Doesn’t even know his name…

Recently i heard about a heart-warming story of how a dying bulldog saves his owner's life in a house fire. Try to read the full story of this wonderful dog.. THats y i love dogs always..Chesapeake Bay Retriever

Wow that is amazing. That goes to show that domesticated animals do have intelligence. I read in this book that pets developed their own personality and become "humanized". Again, this is still amazing though.

This just goes to prove what I already knew, German shepherds are the smartest dogs there are!!

I used to have one as a kid, had to be one of the smartest dogs I’ve ever known

A traveling salesman noticed a pig sporting a wooden leg as he was driving up to the farmhouse. Here's the conversation he had with the farmer after he knocked on the door:

Salesman: "Good afternoon sir. I couldn't help but notice that one of your pigs was wearing a wooden leg. What's that all about?"

Farmer: "Ya know, that is one awesome pig. He saved our lives. One night our house caught fire, and the pig ran into the house and woke us up. Saved us all!"

Salesman: "Wow. That's amazing. But what about his wooden leg?"

Farmer: "Well, let me tell you another story about that pig. That pig saved my boy's life. One day my son crawled off onto that busy road out front when we weren't watching. A semitruck was barreling down the road at high speed. The pig saw this and ran out to the road. He grabbed the boy by the shirt and pulled him to safety just in time. The pig saved his life!"

Salesman:"Well, that's great. But that still doesn't explain the wooden leg."

The farmer glared back at him incredulously.

Farmer:"Well, you don't expect us to eat a pig like that ALL AT ONCE, do you?"

Jay - that's a great story. There's a home inspector here in Atlanta that has trained a dog to find natural gas leaks, it's really something to see. When the dog detects a leak he freezes and the inspector knows he's found a leak. He had the dog trained in the same manner as a drug or bomb sniffing dog.

@James - All I know about this is from the Arizona Republic article that is linked to in the post

Amazing. That proofs that dogs are men best friends.

Also proofs that dogs are very smart and could be learned to do very useful things. It is no strange, that they are even hired for some jobs.

This is a neat story I was wondering if the article you read explained how this dog was taught to perform this task. My grandmother has many health problems and insists on living alone. It would do alot for my sanity if I knew that she had a gaurdian angel like buddy.

I hope the dog gets an extra snack of his favorite food.

Aloha,

Keahi

That's why dogs are man's (and woman's) best friend.

That's amazing -

I think I have the same set of dogs Jay - one of them watches TV and plays constant mind games and the other one is still working through kindergarten (after about 3 years).

I love this blog! Will come again next time for sure,
