Social Identity and Reputation: Video of the Week #18

Those NoMoreDoorKnocking guys up in Saskatoon have released a Common Craft style video about social identity and reputation.

It’s important stuff. We’ve all seen someone’s on-line reputation get crushed with a few misplaced comments or keystrokes. And who knows how many fake personas there are out there on the various social network platforms?

The video hints at what the Vendasta team is up to… could be an interesting play inside, and outside, the real estate space.

Nomoredoorknocking is a small part of a much bigger solution that will ultimately allow professionals of all kinds to leverage their social graph (people they know and trust) to bring them business and referrals.

We always appreciate your comments! Phoenix Real Estate Guy uses two commenting systems, Facebook and LiveFyre. LiveFyre is the most robust system (and easy to use!). It allows you to login with Twitter, Facebook, Google+ LinkedIn, OpenId, LiveFyre and as a "Guest". I recommend getting a LiveFyre account, it has some great features (just click the LiveFyre button when you write your comment).

BLOG COMMENT POLICY: We respectfully ask that you use your real name (first name only is fine) and not use keywords (Why no keywords?). The only real "comment rules" are be civil -- no personal attacks -- and no advertising. (See the full comment policy here). Opinion and debate are welcome, but attack the idea, not the person.

Jay,

Thank you for finding and posting this video. As I continue to use LinkedIn.com, this video is a great reminder!

Jay, that was a pretty good video. I particularly like the phone number that was written on the white board (867-5309) Jenny! It is so easy to impersonate somebody online and you could easily damage reputations in a short period of time. Heck, I could run all over the internet today and post on blogs as someone else and make them sound completely belligerent and do damage to their rep. Its pretty scary if you think about it.

LOL - that's a great and simple video. It communicates an important message in a fun way.

Andy Beal over at Marketing Pilgrim is another great resource for reputation management (he just released a book on the topic). Online reputation management is huge and the need for it will only get more important. With real estate agents, one bad client that knows a little bit about optimization can ruin an agent's online reputation.

I can think of one example in the real estate industry of a well known company that needs a little help with reputation management.

Online reputation is really hard to manage, for every person can write a negative comment about you that can ruin your life.
