Some Local Phoenix Blogs — That Are NOT Real Estate Related…

in Phoenix Life

There are a ton of excellent Phoenix based real estate blogs. Most have been linked to here on frequent occasion (see the Blog Roll if you're interested, though it's far from a complete source).

Life isn't all real estate though. Sometimes one wants local information without the real estate flavor. Here a a few Phoenix area based blogs that I read on a regular basis. These blogs are all over the place, ranging from local news, to things to do, and places to eat. Some are more personal blogs by local folks that really don't have a lot to do with Phoenix per se, but they are interesting reads.

Disclosure –  a couple of these do occasionally contain language a little on the rough side, but there are no real freak shows here.

I am Jack's Brain — some excellent local restaurant reviews are here. Along with other stuff.

Pay Heed to the Geek — Rachel is a local IT/tech support gal who writes some very funny, very opinionated and sometimes very moving stuff. I've been reading her longer than just about any blog I can think of.

Downtown Phoenix Journal — a decent source for local happenings, particularly on the newsy/political side. Does contain some real estate stuff, including the occasional blatant listing advertisement.

Phoenix New Times — not exactly a blog, but the on-line site of the local "alternative" newspaper. Often WAY too liberal for me, it is none-the-less an excellent source of current events and happenings in the Phoenix area.

The Scottsdale Insider — I loved this place. Hasn't been posted to since June 12. I hope they come back…

Life and Times of a TechnoJunkie — A local Gilbert guy. He home brews beer. I've threatened to hunt him down for samples.

Escape From Cubicle Nation — Not really Phoenix specific, it's more a "business blog". As a former cubicle dweller, I find this blog may have the best title I've ever seen. I met the blogger, Pamela Slim, in the book signing line for Seth Godin's The Dip tour when he was in Tempe. I heard Seth Godin tell her, "Oh yeah, you're famous!"

Are We There Yet Mom — I just discovered this local blogger. She has a daughter that just started 8th grade. I have a daughter that just started 8th grade. She doesn't understand texting, and I don't understand texting

I'm always on the lookout for local blogs. If anyone knows of any Phoenix/Arizona blogs, let me know! I plan to re-vamp the blog roll one of these days to better separate the real estate from the local flavors.

UPDATE: Dang it! I knew I was missing someone. The Big Ugly Couch by ASU student Alan Bradford is tough to categorize. But it's really good stuff.  Stop by and wish him a happy 2nd blogiversary.

  • Hi Jay T! Thanks for the link! And I'm honored that you think I'm not a freak show! ;)
  • You're more than welcome Rachel. You know what all is out there, you're not even close to a freak show.
  • I think that if I had a local real estate blog, non-real estate blogs would be the only ones that would make my role.
  • Jay,

I just found your link-love in my spam comments. Thanks a bunch! I know I'm hard to categorize sometimes. I blame it on the ADD. It's just the way my brain works most times. :)

Lately I've been telling people that I write about technology, business, education, marketing, and everything in between. I'd like to get more focused one of these days, but I have a feeling my brain won't let me.
