Regular reader and all around good guy Matt Pellerin pointed out to me today that the new blog theme I installed over the weekend is rendering the blog header differently in Internet Explorer 6 than it is in IE7 or Firefox.
You should see this:

But if you use IE6, you see this:

Apparently, IE6 renders the CSS code differently than either IE7 or Firefox. Thanks Bill Gates and team…
There are a few options here:
1) I could fix hack the CSS to correct the rendering in IE6. Problem is, that lies beyond my technical skills. If anyone out there has an easy answer, I’m all ears…
2) IE6 users can upgrade to IE7 (it’s free).
3) Better yet, IE6 users can switch to Firefox (also free).
4) IE6 users can live with it.
IE8 is going to be rolling out soon, which should help relegate IE6 to the trash bin where it belongs. But there will always be hold outs (three people visited here last month using IE 5.01)
About 67% of our blog visitors use IE, and about 31% of them use IE6. So if my math is right, roughly 21% of all our visitors are using IE6 and seeing this goofy header.
Sorry about that… I’ll work on it as I can.
But really, upgrade!

I urge everyone to upgrade to Firefox 3 – after you’ve used it for a few days you won’t ever go back to IE!
Firefox 3 I hear is great. I also use http://Flock.com which is good for esocial networking.
Jay, welcome to our daily world.
in a perfect world all versions of Internet Exploder older than version 7 would disappear – I know there is a section in Hell with people trapped in a fiery cube farm forced repeatedly write lines of code that will never work
IE 6?! Wow. That’s modern. I get requests to fix stuff for IE 5 still… Good luck with this Jay!
The first timeI saw your new look I was on a computer using IE6 and I thought there was a lot of white space in the header but thought it was a work in progress. Looks much better in firefox. I have to upgrade the computer i was on . It had just been reset to factory settings from a crash.
Personally I’m still a fan of Maxthon 2. It utilizes IE for page rendering but the feature set built around the browser in my opinion surpsasses that of even firefox.

Oops submitted before I was done typing…
Wanted to mention the new layout looks great Jay!! Plus I find your blog way easier to navigate now.
Jay,
I think Michael Wurzer said it best, “Welcome to our daily world”.
How do you even think I caught it? It’s because I am forced to run IE6, IE7, FF2, FF3 and other browsers to make sure all of our sites (and we run quite a few for a 2 man tech team) render in as many browsers as possible.
Sometimes we just say f-it when it is a small issue and the hack is pissing us off. LOL
Best of luck to you Jay… you know I said you could call me anytime. Now might be a good time.

For some reason the footer on my blog does not display correctly in IE7, however my theme works perfectly in Safari and Firefox. At one point I had it all working perfectly on all three browser but after making some changes to the sidebar it is out of whack again. I am wondering if there ever will be a uniform browser standard or something like that…
Jay the new theme looks great and the layout of the theme is much more organized.
Strange, why do I feel the urge to change my theme?
Jay, are you on FF 3.0 yet? I upgraded this week.
I’m in the same issue as you Jay. I’ve just grown to know that if people are using an old browser, there’s a good chance it’s not going to load correctly.
If you get an answer on how to fix it, let me know!
