The Ultimate Irony

Irony:

a. Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs: "Hyde noted the irony of Ireland's copying the nation she most hated" Richard Kain.

b. An occurrence, result, or circumstance notable for such incongruity.

[French ironie, from Old French, from Latin ironia, from Greek eironeia, feigned ignorance, from eiron, dissembler, probably from eirein, to say; see wer-5 in Indo-European roots.]

Or, watching the woman who had just spent four hours in a defensive driving traffic citation mitigation class back into a car as she's pulling out to leave…

You can not make this stuff up.

And yes, traffic school still sucks, even if they did cut it down from 8 to 4 hours. It just sucks half as much — which is still a significant amount.

So, what were you in for?

Cooper, leave it to you to ask… :)

Speeding, 93 in a 65. Now before someone goes off and accuses me of placing lives in danger for driving like a bat out of hell, let it be known that I was northwest of Kingman, AZ — literally in the middle of nowhere. There was no one on the road for miles, accept apparently a Mohave County Sheriff.

He was actually a very nice cop who cut my violation down to 85 in a 65 — making it a civil speeding violation as opposed to a criminal speeding violation. (In Arizona, anything 21+ MPH over the posted limit is considered criminal speeding. Not a place you want to go from either a fine, hassle, or insurance rate perspective.)

Last time I did a stint in drivers ed, I watched several people from the class pull out of the parking lot and turn left, despite a large median and several prominent “no left turn” signs. I was pretty sure I didn’t belong in the class if that was a common result after sitting through an 8 hour education.

Although I did deserve my ticket for Failure to Yield. The dude ran a red light and I did, indeed, fail to yield. I turned left directly into the side of his truck. Since I was the only one who walked away with a ticket, I felt somewhat better when I could drive my car home and he had to be towed. Not bad for small convertible vs. large truck.
