Upgraded to Wordpress 2.7

I just upgraded this blog to Wordpress version 2.7. Wordpress is the software that makes the Phoenix Real Estate Guy blog run.

You, oh avid reader, will in theory see nothing different. Still the same scintillating content that you’ve come to know and love . Behind the scenes, I will see things very differently as the layout of the Wordpress “backend” (get yer minds out of the gutter) has changed significantly.

Sometimes with Wordpress version updates, plugins — little bits of code added to enhance functionality you do see — go wonky. Sometimes not.

Should anyone notice anything amiss, please let me know!

  • Well, Jay, what I'd really like to know is how well it went on your end. I have one of my blogs upgraded, but it was of no consequence should it have failed. I'm hesitant to upgrade just yet, even though I can make a backup of everything and repair any screw ups fairly easily.

Did you get nabbed on any plug-ins? The only one that failed for me was the Simple Tagger for which there was an upgrade by someone else I believe? Problem was the site that the new plugin was linked to didn't work. Anyway, let us know how it went.
  • Jon - I haven't found anything that broke. All seems well.
  • I was never sure if Wordpress 2.7 works correctly now, so I didn't do the upgrade, because I've heard that there are some bugs. So I think I'll upgrade soon.
  • So what do you like the best about the 2.7 version? Is there any added feature you have found to be great? I would love to hear your thoughts o it.
  • Jay, who do you host wordpress with? Do you recommmend them?

  • @Stephen - I uses Media Temple for hosting. They used to have a few uptime issues but have gotten those straight and I like them a lot. http://MediaTemple.net. Not as cheap as GoDaddy, but they do a much better job handling the traffic and also allow me to host multiple domains on the same hosting account.
  • Looks good to me. How do you like the new WP? I have to update my blog but am a bit hesitant. Also it looks like you are using the thesis theme, any problems with that or all systems go?

  • 2.7! They come out with a new upgrade weekly and there's always something better about the platform. It's truly going to become a complete CMS platform within the next few updates. And a really good one at that - i guess I'll go make a few clicks and upgrade ...
  • I will make sure to try to update my wordpress blog. Thanks for the update.
  • Make sure to install the automatic upgrade plugin. It makes upgrading easier especially if you hate using FTP.

  • I wish I could share with everyone the great things Typepad's doing; especially on their backend.. and how easy and dependable the system is. I haven't had the time but in a week or two I will be customizing the site and whatever. I may eventually stay with their templates. Sorry Jay and gang but I sincerely don't miss Wordpress one bit!

  • No need to be sorry Jim. Typepad is clearly a viable option as a blogging platform.
  • I too have seen the upgrade to 2.7 but haven't activated it yet. Is the Dashboard much different than it was before? Any big added perks to the 2.7 version? I may just wait for the next upgrade in a couple months, but maybe I'm missing out on some cool stuff. Nice blog, keep up the good work!
  • @MN First Time Home Buyers - the new dashboard is VERY different. I actually like it quite a bit more than the old one. Things just seem more convenient to get to. You can use the auto upgrade plugin to make it a pretty painless upgrade.

  • Hey J - not sure if you've seen this, but found a nifty link to a list of <a href="http://mashable.com/2008/12/11/wordpress-... 2.7 compatible plugins. Thought it might be useful for folks.

  • I think that you did right regarding update to this new version. I heard that it has less bugs
  • "Make sure to install the automatic upgrade plugin. It makes upgrading easier especially if you hate using http://FTP." If you do that, do you need to set up an automatic backup? What happens to your content when system automatically updated?
  • after recently upgrading to 2.8, I've gone back to 2.7. Will update when 2.8.1 comes out.
