Phoenix Real Estate Guy Turns Five

5th BirthdayToday marks the fifth birthday, anniversary, blogiversary – whatever you want to call it – of Phoenix Real Estate Guy.

In the geologic time scale, five years isn’t very long. In the real estate blog time scale, it’s an eon or so.

A lot has changed in this space in the last five years. Long gone are the days when all the real estate bloggers pretty much knew each other on a personal basis. Heck, now there could be some guy down the block with a real estate blog and I might not even know it existed.

I could take a stroll down memory lane, and recount some soaring highs and staggering lows of the last five years. But I suspect you, oh avid reader, would find that horrifically boring.

Instead, I’ll just say “Thank you”. There are too many people to list individually that have helped me, influenced me, and guided me through the last five years. You know (hopefully) who you are. There are two people I do need to expressly thank, for without them none of this ever would have worked.

To my wife Francy – thank you for putting up with the questions, the cursing, and the time it takes to research and write. I don’t think it’s an understatement to say I’ve spent a few thousand hours on this beast, and that is time away from you and the family. Thanks for being a sounding board for individual articles and for keeping me in check when I need it. You contribute far more to TPREG than anyone realizes.

To the readers – thanks for being here, contributing in the comments (or not), putting up with the occasional rant and more than occasional lousy article. Without you, writing into a void would soon grow old. You are greatly appreciated, and as always if there is something you’d like to see here, some way I can make this a better place for you, don’t hesitate to let me know. You are the reason I do this. Thank you, from the bottom if my heart.

It allows you to login with Twitter, Facebook, Google+ LinkedIn, OpenId, LiveFyre and as a "Guest". I recommend getting a LiveFyre account, it has some great features (just click the LiveFyre button when you write your comment).

The only real "comment rules" are be civil -- no personal attacks -- and no advertising. (See the full comment policy here). Opinion and debate are welcome, but attack the idea, not the person.

About those highs and lows of the last five years, they might not be as boring as you think! You are lucky in a way that you were one of the earlier bloggers. How many people can say that? Most everyone joined in on the fun as soon as it became a big fad. Now they've got an assortment of new ways to communicate online. It's really amazing, isn't it?

I was chatting online before the World Wide Web. I logged onto a Bulletin Board System(BBS) where one computer held multiple phone lines like a party line, and it allowed multiple people to log into the program and chat online with other local people. The first time I chatted online was in 1987 and kept on until about 1995 or 1996...I don't remember for sure. That's when it seemed like all of the sudden....BOOM! People started talking about logging onto the internet.

In another decade, it's going to be a lot different somehow or another.

I should have thanked you last week when I sat in at the NAR mid-year tech workshop.

When I first stumbled upon your blog I immediately appreciated your style, voice, and opinions because it was unlike anything that I had seen in almost 20 years as a "Realtor". So TPREG has been an excellent learning tool that has helped me and my blog on many levels... and all I wish is that you would go back to writing as much as you did a year ago.

Probably don't know me, but I attended your online class @ Virtual RE BarCamp. Thanks for sharing the knowledge and having such an exemplary website. Happy 5th!

Happy Blogiversary Jay! I'm not in Real Estate, but I find your blog informational & entertaining. Thanks for all you do :-)

Thanks for all the "birthday" wishes everyone!

Jay, your blog has provided me with countless hours of entertainment, while giving priceless insight of the real estate industry. Rock on and hoping for another 5.

Putting up with your rants?...Are you kidding? That's why I come here. Rant on!

Jay, as one of the real estate blog originals thanks for inspiring others of us who blog. I know that I have learned a great deal from you and even had the pleasure of meeting you in person. Your truth always shines through and what a contribution you have made to this space and our industry.

Congratulations and happy 5th "Blogiversary!"
